Hooj Selling WMA files!!!
Hooj are now selling WMA files of the hooj adn lost language tracks!
Is it me or is this a good idea in respect to us and a bad idea for them. Once someone has downloaded it once, it will be all over the net/hub etc etc, meaning free music for us.
I hope this means they dont discontinue their CDR's, id rather have something more official/hands on than a computer file.
What do you guys think!?
p.s. each track is 1. I wont be buying any!

EDIT:
UPDATE:
All files are encoded at 128kbps which is the equivalent sound quality of a 160kbps MP3.
We will be offering back catalogue Airtight, Prolekult and most Hooj releases from Hooj050 onwards.
Please remember that a WindowsMedia Audio is a lot, lot better quality when compared to MP3. Remember that MP3 is an aged and inefficient format.
We use the same bitrate as BuyMusic.com (the biggest download store in the world with 300,000 files), iTunes and all the other digital music stores. DX3, the company that deals with the backend of our media serving have sold more than 100'000 downloads through their partners and they have not had one single complaint.
So in short - all of our files sound CD quality. We guarantee that you will not be disappointed. If you buy a download from us and you are not happy with the audio quality, we will burn you a digital copy from the original master Audio CD and send it to you.
Christian from Hooj (in charge of CDR's)

imo thats even worse, fucked if im buying 128kbps files. ill be ringing up for my replacement copies of the audio mastered cds everytime i buy something.
Also what do people think about the re-selling of scarce/limited material that sold out along time ago. i spose its good for those that didnt get it first tiem round, but it sux fo rthose of use that thought we had something unique (although we still ahve original sleeves and printed disc/vinyl)
Here is an excerpt from Hooj:
"None of us got into this business in the first place for career purposes - we all started off just wanting to live the acid house dream etc, but we've all had to face economic reality over time and for us to carry on doing what we do, the simple fact is we have to charge a fee to provide music. Or else we have to go off and do something else.
We think 1 per track is a reasonable fee for half-decent music, delivered via the best quality digital format straight to your PC; We hope you do too."
That makes sense to me, and I don't mind paying a nominal amount to get the CDR's electronically.

bah, wma???
yeah but, firstly it WMA format, not WAV, so its compressed. Secondly, Once one person has downloaded it, it will be availible for all vai the hub or some sor tof direct download. I think most people here, including myself would download for free rather than paying 1 when given the option. Id rather have something in my hand, that is official and can sit on a shelf etc. And in an uncompressed format.
What happens if your hdd crashes, do you still have the right to go back and download the track or do you pay again!? I can't see if being a big success. It's a novel idea, but i dont think it will work.

Yeah i agree. First off, i wouldn't pay for wma anyhow, horrible format, second, it isn't tangible, there is no proof i bought it/i can't physically hold it in my hands..
ive dreaded this day. soon vinyl and cd will be fazed out. downloads only burned on to cd or final scratch. no bookcase full of cds or milk crates full of vinyl.. the time is comming i fear...
is there a list they got of what they'll sell yet?
its up and running!!
all there previous releases are availible in WMA format now!
There are some exclusive new mixes, accapella's previously unreleased i see. I'll be DLing mine for free!

Oh the list is up..i shall indeed look
And i'm sorry, but 128 wma is NOT cd quality..they themselves admit that it's equivilent to 160 mp3, which itself is not cd qual.

In theory it's a good idea, because you certainly wouldn't be able to find MP3s of the entire Hooj back catalogue no matter where you're searching, not without extreme difficulty anyway. I'd pay for them if they were better quality and in a format I use (ie, not WMA). |

Whattaf.. does this mean then? Will all labels go to the pay and download idealism soon? Will CDs/CD-Rs disappear? Noooooooooooooo!!!!
I know Hooj hasn't done profit as well over the past few years as they did earlier but still.. Why this and not simply represses of the old releases for example. I know this is much cheaper but i think ppl would more likely to get the actual records than dl some crappy .WMA files which Hooj says for being "CD quality" LOL!!
Yeah, right.
I don't see myself being there and dl/ing all those tunes, or any tunes actually.. especially in that poor quality format.
are these a direct download, or protected by DRM (digital rights management)
I'd buy some of the old tracks I haven't been able to find. 1 is a reasonable price.
wma sounds tinny and lacking in bass compared to mp3 in my opinion at 128k (yes comparing to 160 mp3)
1 quid a copy is a good idea though!
the last 2 posters, ill make this point again: why pay for something that will be leaked within days onto the hub/soulseek/kazaa or whatever you use. It's just a file...
On another note, i've had unnoficial confirmation that cds wont be fazed out by hooj but exclusive mixes will continue to be released in the .WMA format, which imo is FUCKIN GHEY!!! Theyve turned anti-DJ or something!!?!
Hooj!!?!? WTF ARE YOU DOING!?!

I agree that they will, or at leasy should, get lots of extra sales. Some peopledont wanna play rare-as-feck vinyl only in clubs, overly priced at 6+postage each. And some people dont use the hub! Some poeple would RATHER pay reasonable prices for their music rather than download it all the time too. So good on u Hooj. Shame it's wma at a bad bitrate, but I hope that doesn't make it fail - puts me off tho.
I think Hooj is doing a great job by introducing this. It's a shame though the format is WMA, probably because of DRM.
When Junkie XL started with radiojxl.com I bought the two 7AM albums too. I could download them for free, but I didn't...Support the artist
So if you're able to buy your favourite tracks online, to a reasonable price that is because I think 1 is a bit expensive, why won't you do it? I download tracks because I want to know how they sound, if I like it I'll buy it. Simple as that.
I do think record companies should lower the prices of cd's in stores, because they are way to high. If cd's were half the price they are now I would buy lots and lots more.
