why would u be afraid?

this just popped in my head out of the blue

if u were homosexual,
would u be ok with telling ppl that u were, or would u be afraid of telling them and why would u be afraid..

this question goes the same way for anything else a memmber of the kkk, being wiccan, being bi whatever it may be

why would u be afraid of saying it out in the open that u were or do sertin things.. and i'm not talking about braggin about it but just setting the story stright about who u really are.

it has to do with self-image and insecurity - most people are afraid of what other people think of them, afraid that they won't be accepted (and sometimes this 'paranoiia' gets really severe, they start hurting themselves and such...)

some people are even afraid to admit to some of the things they've done because they think they'll be looked down upon (for example, sitting on your computer every friday and saturday night instead of going out - and other days of the week as well). it's just that they're afraid of not being up to the society's standards.

so then why do we/other have to be so crule and strick with society standers
as in why do we give off that impression

if i was gay i dont think i would have a problem telling people. this is probably due to a) my open minded parents, and b) the ppl i hang around with wouldnt really care either way.

i think im pretty lucky in that way, a lot of ppl would b scared because the ppl the hang around with use the word gay as an insult.. idiots.

Well... I wouldn't be afraid if it were my real identity... in fact, I think it's time to tell:

I'm left-handed, vegetarian and lesbian!

Yes, I write with my left hand, I don't eat meat and I like girls...

So, say it: who are you all?!

Posted by TranceGiant on Aug-16-2003 16:41:

there's the aspect of self-confidence and how you wanna be seen by people BUT there's also the more "practical" side of it, the often negative consequences which are a FACT in our not-yet-perfect world.

Posted by Fire|IcE on Aug-16-2003 16:45:

i have to tell everyone something...since we're all being proud of what we are and who we are..well im oh man how can i put this...IM VIVID BOY!!!!!! DUN DUNNNAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Posted by RubiK Cube on Aug-16-2003 16:50:

I wouldnt have a problem telling any one. U are who u are and shouldnt hide from that fact. Ur parents will always love you so you should b able to tell them, and if your friends do change towards you then they are not true friends and aint worth knowing

Because people have the need of being accepted in a social group: they often need to feel they're part of something, that they're welcome and stuff.

Every group has a "policy" on how people should behave. Even here on TA: spamming, flamming, trolling... this behaviour is not tolerated here - obviously this is a rather dumb example, but we can use this as an analogy for trivial things from daily life.

i think a reason some people choose not to reveal who they really are is because people will treat them diffrently then if they didn't have this diffrence. Does that make sense? An example is when i got baptized when i was 16 my friends didn't talk to me anymore because they thought i was "diffrent" which was ridiculous.

See the good side of it. If they stopped talking to you because of such stupid reason, that's because they weren't true friends. Luckily, you found it out with something "trivial": it would've been a lot worse if you were in trouble and they had turned their back to you when you needed them the most

And sometimes you don't need to do something in order to be "the different one"

i thought exactly the same thing... if they can't handle my personal beliefs concerning religion that doesn't affect them at all, then sod off! and that's just what they did.

It's all part of the trap mate, everyone is caught up in another form of homeostasis, call it whatever you like but most people don't like to stand out of the group. at least in the states fag/homo is common derogatory slang when making fun of people and thus is naturally associated with a negative stigma, before somebody even really knows what a "homo" is negative thoughts are attached to it so its only natural that some people take this "fear" of homosexuality to the extreme. I've personally been very good friends with many a gay person (however lame that sounds).... I'm not giving this topic any justice writing about it while being fucked up cos basically im majorly offtopic...

in a sentences: If I was homosexual I would be fearful to be openly gay as I have seen the free-reign discrimination towards homosexuals. There is nothing they can do, the mob mentality is set against them, especially in school. It's sad really...

You know the secret?

hehe, it reminded me that I've never eaten a taco in my whole life

By the way: are vegetarians allowed to eat fishes and Chicken McNuggets? I eat sushi sometimes and once a year I eat Chicken McNuggets, but in this case, I don't think it could be considered meat

you fuckin sick sick bastard you homo (cute penis)

lol, that reminds me of all those bash.org jokes that talk about how you meet a girl, fall in love with her cuz she's smart, funny, etc., etc., has a perfect body, a perfect ass and incredible boobs and then when it's time to shag she gets naked and WHAM - she has a penis and it's bigger than yours... GUTTED!

being different is looked down upon, i don't really know why. but personally, i'm more comfortable being different from all the MTV and 'shampoo commercial' clones; especially rich kids ugh
