Smiling Frog StarScape 2003 - 9-27-03 - Fort Armistead Park, Baltimore, MD

Well they just realised StarScape's lineup, and well...I hope you like Jungle heh because the Main Stage is all Drum & Bass! I was disapointed by this, but there's a lot of people that love Jungle out there and I guess they sorta deserve the "Main" Stage for once, oh well. Great House DJ's too, except there is like no one that plays Trance that is gonna be there? (Oh well, it'll give me the chance to see some DJ's I haven't seen too many times I guess, I'll be in the Buzz Tent like the whole time heh) But enough of my crap, here's the lineup and info.

The lineup's disappointing.

Posted by vtec junkie on Aug-17-2003 22:33:

the drum & bass line up is sick....not that im into d&b anymore but i still like it. DJ Icey is always a pleasure to see

That's expected... Lonnie would like nothing less than for everyone to be a D&B fan.

Scott Henry never disappoints, but he and Icey are all that I would really be looking forward to. I'll probably wind up going anyway.

Hey, just wanted to let everyone know (Incase this event actually intrests some of you heh)

But yea, DJ Icey won't be playing at StarScape - they just replaced DJ Icey with Green Velvet (DJ Set)

So yup it's confirmed and everything is the same so far expect for this

Just wanted to let you guys kno, peace and respects

Posted by Trancer-X on Sep-02-2003 00:30:

Let me take you to

La La Land

Not quite Icey's breaks but, alright, we'll see what's up.

Posted by Freeza on Sep-02-2003 01:08:

Rasta

Yea - I love watching Green Velvet do a live performance more of corse, too bad there not doing one, it's very good.

His DJ set's I've always enjoyed in the past too, so I think he's definaly a worthy replacement

Posted by Trancer-X on Sep-02-2003 02:03:

I think that Green Velvet and Faithless should collaborate. That would be insane!

I'm just looking forward to hearing some electronica blasted in a nice outdoor setting! It doesn't get much better than partying under the blue skies of the Chesapeake Bay!

Less than a mile away from where our country was victorious in battle against Britain.

It's hard to imagine that in 1812 all of those British warships bombarded us with everything they had, while we ferociously returned fire. Our cannons blazing, lighting up the same sky that our lasers now peacefully illuminate.

i am going. i am still trying to convince my bf to go, but the dnb lineup should help with that, even though he isnt into dnb rave djs quite as much. is this going to sell out or can i get tickets at the door? cause i have no desire to buy advanced tickets....

I wouldn't risk it...

The last 2 years I've gotten there around 30 minutes before the event started, and I'm pretty sure there were no tickets being sold - I do remember that I got asked a few times by random people if I had one extra to sell.

But you never know I guess

Posted by Trancer-X on Sep-03-2003 02:29:

Every year it seems to become more popular with bigger productions and more concessions. Who knows what it'll be like with this years beer garden being in effect. I'm glad my heavy drinking days are behind me because with too much of a buzz it becomes increasingly difficult to dance

Already have a small group going.. We are hoping for good weather and we're probably going to do a BBQ up in Baltimore before hand if anyone would like to join us.. I'll give details of exact location, time and where the alternate for dinner will be if bad weather!

Re: StarScape 2003 - 9-27-03 - Fort Armistead Park, Baltimore, MD

From the Buzz message board regarding the Sonic Soul Pier:

quote:

Here is a rundown of each DJs style for the Sonic Soul Pier --

9 - 10:30 Fluid
He plays a unique brand of abstract down-tempo and undeground hip-hop. Labels such as Ninja Tune and Tru Thoughts. Funky, chucky, and a bit freaky.

10:30 - 11:15 K Ravi (laptop live set)
He recently released an ep on the UK's Universal Cooler label and has been working on material with DJ LoveGrove that is soon to be released. Jazz influenced down-tempo and latin influenced broken beats.

11:15 - 12:15 Graham S
Graham S is arguably the best US DJ spinning West London style UK Nu-Jazz. His mixing is flawless with a style it is easily the hardest style to mix. Crazy break beats with abstract jazzy melodies, deep basslines, and a sexy soulfulness.

12:15 - 1:45 Thunderball
The dons of DC break-beat, both mid-tempo and drum n bass styles. Currenly touring throughout Europe in support of hugely successful and critically acclaimed releases on Eighteen St Lounge Recordings and their own Fort Knox label.

1:45 - 2:45 Chris Bulla
The owner of Baltimore's finest DJ shop, Modern Music. Chris plays a funky, somewhat techy, style of deep house.

2:45 - 4:15 Donny Burlin
A devoted follower of the deep and soulful vocal house sound.

4:15 - 6 LoveGrove
Closing out the night is a DJ who has been named "Baltimore's Best" by Baltimore Magazine ('03) and the Baltimore City Paper's Reader's Poll ('02). Tonight he will be spinning his signature jazz inspired deep house, but he may also drop some funky down-tempo grooves in the mix -- you never really know with him. It is Starscape tradition to have him close out our area every year -- he has every year since Starscape's inception.

Hope that helps.
Sunrise on the pier, there is nothing like it!

I talked with the Maryland Department of Parks and Rec. and they said that the picnic areas will be open at Fort Armistead, but we'll have to bring our own protable grill!

So we're going to just chill up at the park early and I'm going to grill some chicken here before we go since it takes the longest to grill and I'm going to bring with us some hotdogs and some hamburgers to grill there. We'll also be bring a soccer ball and volleyball net.

We're looking to be up there for a chill afternoon by around 4:30pm... I'll be bringing some alcohol and jello shooters as well! But any contributions to this is very welcomed cuz my quantities will be limited to the amount of money I have considering I'm a bit jobless right now!

I don't mind cooking, but if I could have a numbers as to how many people from here will be there, I'll be able to figure out how much food we need to have! If its easier.. we might divide out the money ask everyone to chip in like $3 or $4 and I'll just get everything from the commisary.. where alcohol and food are the cheapest!!

Comming in from FL

Hey guys, what's up? I am comming from Florida to go to Starscape and I wanted to know what to expect. Will it be worth the travel? I sure hope so because I already bought my plane ticket and I am about to buy my ticket to the event. Regardless, any positive feed back would be appreciated. I am a huge house fan, but I have not heard of any of the dj's on the lineup.
Also, I was suppose to come up to MD with a bunch of friends, but they sold out at the last minute. Would anyone like to meet up there? If anything, just look for a girl in pink and yellow. Trust me, you will see me. I will have the letters "FL" on my shirt.
Ummmmm thats about it.

Melissa
