Review: John Digweed at Lotus
I will post a bit later. I had an amazing time- good to see some TA's out. Left at about 4

I don't really have much to say about it other than it was a kick-ass party. nice club, nice atmosphere, good attitude (for the most part), & those girls doing that crazy shit with the fire fingers & tit grinder were pretty cool.
my review:
we got to Lotus around 9:30pm b/c we were supposed to be having dinner there. Our reservation got messed up, so we ended up not eating. Luckily I had a small snack prior, otherwise I would have been toast. My crew got in for free so I can't complain.
The decor of Lotus is very nice. I like the red a lot. I find that the building is too 'busy' though. Not enough open space, too many rooms and such. The main floor (where diggers was spinning) was too small for a DJ of that status to be playing- it got very squishy at times. The ppl that where there for teh first hour and a half or so where not who i would call 'my ppl' teh girls were pretty skanky-looking, most not even 'skanky-attractive'. the guys were pretty disgusting (i'm not a fan of juice-heads). but as time passed more regular typed began to fill the place. I found ppl to be really polite- nic ewomen in teh washrooms and guys that helped me get by in the crowded areas- i was pleasantly surprised
Mark Oliver played a great opening set. Matt and I were very impressed. When I heard the 'la da di da la da di da' part in "scandal in new york" a massive smile appeared on my face. I try never to take for granted that we have such a great resident like mark in TO!
We stayed until about 4 (my poor sister was siting on one of the platforms dead tired for teh last hour). I loved Digweeds set. A lot of variety and versatility. there's something about his programming that seems so perfect.

Jason- glad we found eachother- it was great to see you again!

I met a really nice TA girl in the washroom but my ears were ringing and i could barely hear her- nice to meet you and I hope you had fun
all in all a great party- thanks to everyone for being a part of it.

It was awesome, good tunes.... hot in some places but u just needed to find where the air was coming in...
I just wish Lotus wasn't the venue for this event. Loconet & I got in around 12:30 (paying $30..yikes!!) and walked into a bloody furnace!! Just 5 minutes after getting in I was already sweating bullets. Never mind that; they didn�t have vbase 
Oh well.. thought I�ll survive on beer but at 1:30 they ran out of beer at the main floor bar. WTF !!! I can say without a doubt that the only reason I stayed was Digweed�s set. He was awesome. Kept everyone moving all night. I was glad he spun some new tracks and then a few classic tracks later on.
First TA we ran into was StereoPrincess she led us to the other TAs. Great seeing all you again and met Ukrainianstud for the first time. Things got better after 3 once all the drunk ginos left and the club started to cool down. I was able to enjoy myself with more room to dance so I was glad I stayed. The party ended around 5:30 and then we headed over to StereoPrincess�s place to chill for a bit. Thanks so much for the oranges and peach punch, Margaret 
Definitely a fun night. Digweed 9/10. Lotus 4/10.

That was a thouroughly fun night! Despite the fact that Lotus is a complete peice of crap. Super crowded, hot, with tons of sleaze bags thinkin that they be tha shite.
Despite all that Digweed totally impressed me playing progressive music that kept the whole crowd moving. People were totally up for Digger's set and wouldn't let the poor guy stop urging him to play 3 encores.
Fantastic as always to see and party with quite a few TAs crowding the front. And of course the party never stops at club close, Kudos to the hostess with the mostest once again.... its Midnight and I'm still fricken hammered!!!

When I first walked in (you had to go upstairs first), the first worry I had was the heat in the place but hot air rises so that's why it was already hot up there the AC system downstairs really helped (if you found the pockets of cool air). I searched around for Tara and everyone and found everyone pretty easily (right in front of the DJ booth, surprisingly). I think every person, within 5 minutes of being at Lotus, was saying how there are never going to go to that club again! It did get better after 3. Mark Oliver had an amazing opening set. Digweed's set was awesome! It was one of the best sets I have heard in a long time. Some very cool tunes, which no one could identify. He went on playing for quite a long time. He did like three encores and I the end I started to think that it would never stop. As we were leaving, I was standing at the door and John walked by with his posse and they told him to wait right in front of me. So I was able to say "Thanks John for the great music tonight" and he said "You're welcome, thanks for coming" in his british accent. That was pretty cool.
The only problem was that I had to pay so much attention to all the people moving around and a lot of scuzzy guys trying to cop a feel. The set up of the club is just wrong. Why would you put the walk through way right in front of the DJ booth were people are trying to dance. My suggestion would be to place the DJ booth were the back bar was and put that bar where the DJ booth is. You wouldn't have so much pushing in the front.
Nice seeing everyone again and thanks to Az, Carlos, Ben, and Jason for coming over after the party. It was fun to talk for a bit.

I'm finally recovered, so here's my review for the night.
Got in just before 11, walked around a bit, trying to get a feel for the place, got my drink and then bumped into Jacob and his buddy (Tim?). We talked for quite a while on the 2nd floor, near the "hand-flower" structure...what is that thing? Looked a little trippy hehe. We then decided to walk around some more, nearly got lost..haha
Anyway...we headed downstairs and Mark Oliver was playing a pretty good opening set...and then Digweed came on. Awesome set!!! 
He kept me moving the whole night (except for when I had to stop to let the constant stream of ppl walk through) 
It's too bad they picked this venue...any of a number of other venues would've been better. I probably won't be going to Lotus anytime soon. 
I had no problems with the heat...it was quite comfortable IMO.
It was great seeing sooo many friends out!!

i had a great time musicwise .. digweed played a wikked set displaying his skills and versatility as a superb dj. he kept me dancing most of the nite even though i was soooo exhausted!
as for lotus .. i am definitely not a big fan .. and i will most likely not be going there again. the entire setup is all wrong and i just couldn't fully enjoy myself with all these people constantly pushing and shoving their way through .. all i ask is that people say 'excuse me!' how hard is that?!! and the bartender at the bar on the restaurant side is quite possibly the worst bartender ever - this is the second time she's served me (the first being at nick warren) and both times i had to wait over 15 mins to get served!! she just doesn't know how to properly serve people in the order they arrive. anyhoo, that's enough of my rant!
but otherwise, digweed totally made up for it. i thoroughly enjoyed his set and i can totally understand why he is still one of the biggest djs around. now we've gotta see if sasha will be able to equal or even top digweed's performance.

i have to add props to the wikked performances .. like the firelady and the tit-grinding lady .. both of whom were the same person. but it was quite interesting to watch!

Well, Digweed two nights ago and Ukrainian Festival last night = CRAZY WEEKEND
I got into the Club at 10pm and walked around and realized that this is the wrong club for this venue. The main dance floor is about the size of my living room 
and the main doors being right beside the DJ booth is the dumbest layout ever. The crowd at the beginning of the night was ridiculous. All these people wanted to do was walk around. AND TO THE BITCH WHO THREW HER DRINK AT HER BOYFRIEND AND HIT ME INSTEAD WITH HER VOLDKA AND GOT ALL OVER MY SHIRT>>>BURN IN HELL.
By 3am it is true that the crowd died down and got "roomy". THE SET Digweed spun was something I have been missing for a long time.
SHOUT OUT TO THE WHOLE TA CREW, If it wasn�t for you I would have gone nuts and killed every gino\gina
in the whole place who thought they could just push and walk around all night

Well, this is exactly what I expected from Digweed; an awesome set and nothing less...
Most of the night I was up on the riser above the floor because the floor was just too packed, I actually had a little breeze from the front door and I could see the DJ booth perfectly.
I thought that at some points it was dragging but then this build up would come out of nowhere and the crowd would respond in kind. Like Digweed was conducting a rollercoaster and we were his passengers who reacted with every up and down that came at us.
I felt like a was being led on a trip, with no control and was loving it.
He definately knows how to command a crowd and that just goes to show the experience this man has.

Even ran across a few Tribers I haven't seen since the Delta Heavy; good to see them out as well...(Vinder and President El Steppa)
All in all it was a fun night and even though I really only recognized a few songs, it was all good...
