Halo - First Day (original mix) *remastered & extended*

hey hey, now i'm usually posting trancey remixes i've made on these pages, now here is something completely different, still very much in a simialr style to my other work - you can tell it was me who made it
Anyway - pretty rough mix, but works well i think, i might do a polished mix of it soon, but i like how it sounds dirty.

BTW - vocal sample is from Nine Inch Nails - Wish, before anyone asks me

Liked it a lot, maybe you should increase the volume of the vocal sample, I don't think it sounds right like this

downloading it now(56k), i'll post thoughts once i listen to it.

this is wicked! the beat is fantastic and the vocal is cool..

a few snots that should be fixed before putting it on any demo, i agree that the vocal needs to be louder, and maybe put some long gated reverb on it to give it some raaar. the bassline needs to be phatter, it needs some growlyness. also needs mastering also i would also think about bringing some more banging perc in towards the last third of the track and where the breaky kick drum comes in in the breakdown

other than that its wicked, if it was mastered i would play it

Thanks Jefff, nice comments, although you may have misunderstood what i meant my 'demo mix' - not a mix to go on a demo CD, but me Demo-ing the track for myself so i can see whats working and whats not, like a benchmark for improvements
i agree with whats said about the vocal, it's going to mean me adjusting the levels on all the other channels as the vocal is already as loud as it will go, and through as much compression as possible without it sounding squashed.

anyway - surely there are some other people who are willing to give something different a try???? 60+ views and 3 reply's is pretty bad going in my book.

Happens to me all the time, and I agree with you. On other forums I've posted my tracks and gotten maybe 4 or 5 replies, and only 2 or 3 of them would be reviews/feedback. On those same forums, somebody that everybody knows posts a mediocre track and it has 25 replies in an hour. I don't know if these forums will work out the same for me.

About this track:

Loved the intro right from the start. Nice raspy synth you got going there. Ambient noise is nice but maybe a bit repetitive. Choice of kick sound is good.

Percussion is building up nicely. Vocals are very nice, is that you or a sample?

Percussion is fantastic now. Nice and housy track, progressive all the way through.

Really enjoyed this. Great work.

Easy.People have different tastes.Why did you think people didn't go over the moon with Haak until he made Frenzy? Because it was trance,and sadly,trance gets a lot more response on this forum (cos after all,this is tranceaddict) than other genres.

I'll check out your track when my bloody capped speed is back to normal JMF

it's not that, the pitiful amount of replies and views compared to everything else
me and justin did an experiment with his last track, haak posted, and within 15 minutes the views and replies doubled from a track that had been posted for days
it's cliquey and shit, and talent isn't recognised

Breakdown is awsome, the vocals thing reminds me of steve murano.

It seems as if there should be more power in the result of the breakdown, soemthing is missing that would really make it explosive to me. RIght now I don't know what it could be though...

At last something really different here on this forum after lots of standard proggy tunes and wannabe uplifting tunes. A very good beat with a pumping bassline and optimal kick drum. Sounds professional and fresh, technical side of production is awesome. Thanks for sharing this in this high mp3 rate. If you had the rights on the vocal smaple you would be signed soon...

True... and sadly that's something that will never change either...

This is definitely some different stuff. I love the bassline and percussion I have to ask, what did you use on the vocals around the three minute mark? Really cool stuff going on there. Not exactly my style, but I can hear that this is quality stuff.

damn dude. just started listening, this is some hard stuff. i like it though, never heard anything quite like it before. i am a fan of nin too, so this is a nice little treat.

i like the stutter effects you have done with the vocals, and then the distortion on top of it later on. the only thing is that when u have the vocals going crazy it get me confused till the music comes back in lol (not bad, maybe just add a few more things so that you can keep in sync with the music because its a little jumpy if you know what i mean). one idea though, the buzzy distorted bass synth is cool (i like how some of it is in the left and some is in the right) but i think if you tried to layer another similar distorted synth doing the same thing it would make it sound even phatter, because right now the synth has that 'one synth' sound.. i dunno maybe you could try applying some effects to the high frequency part of the sound... like split the signal and with one of them you could cut out all the lows and then apply unison, phaser, chorus, or a little reverb or a combination and then mix that back in with the original signal.. that way it will still have that tight bass, but you will have a fuller sound in the high frequecies.. anyway just an idea.

Fatboy> The vocal thing is done with the Scream 4 distortion unit in Reason 2.5, it's a digital artefact distortion, kinda like a bitcrusher thing when i heard that type of effect on a vocal i had to put it to good use

Extalin> You've given me some wonderful idea's that i would have never have thought of on my own, which in my opinion is the whole point of these forums, to help each other become better producers i'll look into splitting the bass signal, and maybe adding another layer thats in the centre of the stereo field.
as far as the crazy vocal part and when the main tune comes back in, i'm at a loss, i can't really think of a way to bridge the gap, but i'm going to keep on working at it

Wow, this really is a f**kin nice tune! Definitely high quality!

The only thing you should look at again, IMO, is the layering of the sounds in the space. When you listen to the track on headphones, you hear too much separate sounds in your left and right ear. I hope you understand what I mean.
Also the break is a bit too distorted I think, it will get people too confused. Especially around the 4:00 mark.

But the drive in this song is absolutely amazing. It will really get people rocking!

Tweaked bassline, added some bass during the crazy vocal section, and some more layering after the minute mark

Usually I am not really into hard stuff, but I really like your track. It's something refreshing. The cutting is great, I like this part starting on the 4:00 mark and of course this rocking bassline.

really great stuff...i love it!!! the vocal sample fits the tune...the beat is crazy dark and drivin...that bassline is insane, i cant say much, it blew me away!!!

Wow, this is different! It's barmy but really, really good with it...I particularly love that bassline and what you've done with the vocal sample (especially at the mid-point of the track). Great work!
