Headphones for my Walkman?
My old pair of ear-bud headphones are getting worn out, and I am looking to replace them with a higher-end pair of headphones.
So what I was wondering is, what pair of headphones should I get, out of the following list:
Ministry of Sound DJ1008, DJ1006, or DJ1006s
all of which can be found here
or.....
Sennheiser HD 477 or HD 497
both of which can be found here and here, respectively.
The reason I have these models picked out specifically is that they are the only models that are available in my local store, save for the Sennheiser HD 497, and I don't have a credit card for making on-line purchases
. So any information that you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I know there is a large thread dedicated to headphones already in the DJ Booth Forum, but in this case I am looking for headphones specifically for Walkman-use, and at the risk of sounding lazy, I don't want to search through the 36 pages that the "Headfones" thread already consists of.
holy shit! koss alll the way. koss is an amzing brad..ive been using it for a long time. get the UR-30 or UR-29.
hmm..u dont have a credit card, that might be a prob.
anyway,the hd497 are-not-portable.
They are big and a bit bulky..not really for outside use imo.
Koss is good, the best i know of it the portapro's and the ksc-35's,which can be found for less that 50-60 bucks max(the porta pro's are cheaper).
Never heard of the UR's...cant recommend em.
Another good option is the sony mdr-d66 sl,but u definetely need a credit c. for those.
good luck on your purchase and make sure u audition your headphones for more than ten minutes before u buy em!!
Actually, the Sony MDR-V6 / MDR-7506 are very good for other things besides DJ phones -- I would heartily recomment them for portable use.
I myself use a pair of 7506's when travelling, and they are wonderful. Some benefits of these cans as portables:
1. They are quite small.
2. They are very, very durable. This is especially important when used as a portable.
3. The sound is excellent for listening; in fact I would say they are better for casual listening and enjoyment rather than studio monitors / DJ monitors. This is because they are coloured, with excellent bass and slightly pronounced highs. They are very clear and make trance (or any electronica, in fact) sound very fun!
4. They are easily driven by portable walkmans etc. This is a very important point that you shouldn't overlook. I don't personally know the Sennheiser headphones you listed in your original post, but make sure they don't need to be amped. If they do, they're quite useless as portables (unless you want to carry a headphone amp around).
5. They have a low profile and won't make your head look like an alien's, which many other phones tend to do (like Sennheiser HD-280).
Hope this helps. If you don't have a credit card, it might be a problem if you want to get a specific pair of headphones -- usually the best place to get them is online.
Good luck!
