No more beatmatching, what's next ???
So i've mastered the basics of beatmatching. I can obviously match two songs, and fade one out from the other, and make it sound pretty good.
What exactly do I learn to do next? How do I start to really "mix" ?? As in having 2 songs playing, and take the bass out of one, and turning up the other, and than vice versa... I'm not sure where to head to next....
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing I can suggest is fooling around with tunes and eventually, you'll devoloppe your own style...
Now you must buy lots and lots and lots of records...spend every penny you have on vinyl...
well at leats thats what i did
no really after i learned how to spinn trance i started getting into breaks and stuff...so i spinn both and i enjoy it.
i would say maybe looking into spinning 2 styles. Give your life some new tunes every time you spinn enstead of the same thing over again.
I would suggest working on the track selection to see what kinds of tracks go well with each other depending on your style of course, then maybe try varying your your blends.
just freestyle i guess uv got over the hurdles its time for fun
Get creative...
phraze matching! you can't put up a seamless mix unless you can do this decently i think its key to a mix. i beleive recess.org or some site like that has an excellent tutorial on it. basically what you do is figure out if it is evey 4 beats or 8 beats or 16 or so on that a new sound or the song changes. match your incoming track to the begining of a phrase on your live track and mix out with your eqs and fader...this is a really shitty explanation so if anyone else can explain i'm sure they will help out better than me i could put up a few examples of it if you would like though
technique
if you really wanna become diverse you should start treating the turntable as an instrument
i suggest : turntable technique "the art of the dj" by stephen webber
its kinda nice since it comes with 2x12" lesson records that teach you how to cue shit up and a little skratching too
dont mean to sound rookie but its not a bad tool for begginers!

It's a book => you have to pay for it.
Spend the money on records and mess around with them!
Try EQing, bass fading and that i mean...

No matter what you think, you will never master beatmatching. Mastering it means you will never screw up and everyone screws up here and there. Even the greatest of them all. Never think you master anything, cause then you have nothing left to shoot for! Shoot for perfection but understand that you can never get there!
peace.

Replace the boxes, put them in the other corner of your room. it will sound a little bit different, and that will just improve your mixing-skills. dunno if you have ever spinned in a club, but it wil sounds really different out there.
try to mix just in your headphones, put the tune which your public is hearing at the cue and the tune you want to mix in at the cue and try to mix it. just don't listen to your boxes, keep your headphone at your both ears during the transitions (actually just the whole time you're mixing)
try to spin at some other equipment, I think your TTs are technics, but maybe you will spin at a time at a place, where are some other TTs than technics. The same about your mixer.
Experience with backspins and other turntable-tricks. learn to do backspins at the right time, at the last beats from 4 x 8, or sometimes even better 4 x 8 x 4. (it's difficult to explain it, my English it's not that good
)
listen to other DJs and try to pick the good things out of their mixing-skills and learn them.
have fun!

Wise words said to me once when i was starting out:
6 scoring points available to you when djing:
1 point for your mixing
1 point for having the right records in your box
2 points for your programming (tune selection and order)
2 for being able to read the dancefloor/crowd/room
Wise words.
As you get better you will find beatmatching becomes second nature and you will find it will be the least of your concerns.far tougher things to deal with in the middle of a set
i like this topic .. i now think 4 myself i can take the next step beyond beatmatching
01 beatmatching
02 phrase match
03 harmonic mixing
must do all...
