Who are the biggest freaks out there?

Ok, I'm not sure if many of you remember, but I was particularly offended by a thread in the chillout room that stereotyped Americans as being ignorant, rude, and arrogant as a whole based upon the poster's experiences with tourists:

http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...15049&highlight

In lieu of recent findings ...

quote:

Britons and Germans 'rudest tourists'

Brits abroad are not popular with many hotel and catering workers
British holidaymakers have come a very close second to the Germans in a survey to find the rudest nation of tourists.

As many as 22% of overseas hotel and catering staff thought the British were the rudest customers they had encountered, according to the survey by Caterer and Hotelkeeper magazine.

Only the Germans came out worse, with 23% of 1,000 staff interviewed finding them the least bearable.

Many British tourists were described as "drunken, yobbish, and spitting", with frequent displays of "arrogance" and "ignorance" when on holiday abroad.

It was even alleged that Britons had a habit of demanding compensation for meals they had already eaten but claimed to not enjoy.

Some accused the Brits of insulting staff and spitting at them, while one waiter claimed to have been threatened with a gun by an unhappy customer.

The magazine's editor, Forbes Mutch, said: "I think these survey results will come as a surprise to many people. This just goes to show that we Brits have a thing or two to learn when it comes to table manners."

The survey also carried the claim that Germans always found something to complain about no matter how high the standard of service.

One hotelier working in the Caribbean reported a German customer taking service staff to task for refusing to massage suntan oil into her back.

After the Germans and the British, the Americans and French were considered the next rudest nations, each with 18% of the votes, followed by the Italians with 17%.

I still refuse to stereotype an entire society based upon the rediculous notion that tourists are in any way the definitve end all be all character definition of a peoples. So to all those that originally stated that Americans were rude/arrogant/etc, based upon their tourist representations, I say fuck you.

ahh occrider trying to prove that americans aren't as messed up as every trys to pin on them using fact based arguements...

well i for one an not a fan of french tourists they always smell and are never happy with the food your bring them nor do they ever tip

but really i do agree, americans do get a bad rap for sheit because they are the easiest one's to pick on while other "tourists are just as rude and ignorant" but we do bring alot of it on ourselves in more obvious ways then other cultures.

Those americans i've met have been kind..
but of course there's bad seeds in every country.

True.

I'm trying to think of a case I can remember of encountering a rude tourist, but I can't honestly think of one. The hotel etc staff would know best though.

well, I love American tourists who can't comprehend the kilogram.

My point was exactly that as I was vehementely trying to explain in the old thread I referenced.

i really do believe that there are idiots everywhere you go, it is unfair to generalize an entire country based on a few shitty experiences with a few people.

hehe, that was one of the funniest ever TA threads.. hehe...

my first thought is that germans and british ppl are going abroad more than the amrican ppl (cuz america has most of whats worth seeing in their own country...)...

anyway i agree on you, it's stupid to point out a popultion of a country cuz of some dumb ass tourists...

Posted by DrUg_Tit0 on Aug-28-2003 22:50:

Well, from my experience american tourists are actually pretty friendly and outgoing, but also somewhat naive and uneducated. Only lately they've become somewhat paranoid.

hmm basing you're opinion of other people upon the tourists from those countries seems just plain stupid to me... but I still believe that many americans are ignorant, since the american people indirectly is responsible for the government in the USA... and, i'm not to fond of the USA right now... If it makes you feel better, I don't like the swedish government either.. stupid ******s... well well yada yada, that was slightly off topic, sry...

hmm still, I think that the saying "People are stupid, individuals are intelligent(sometimes )" makes alot of sense...

Its true, I was embarrased to be British last week when I saw the majority of the twats near us in Ibiza. On the other hand, most of the Americans we met were complete arseholes too, and probably worse than some of the pissed up Brits.

Got it! Thanks for clearing that up for me

I worked at a resort at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL for two years while in HS....and well, I would say that not one group stood above the rest as being the rudest.

If there was ONE thing I hated at the time, it was the odd amount of people from England who would buy 3 or 4 beers with their breakfast when I worked in the mornings and I would see them drink them all in 10-15 minutes and come back up and buy more...they would seriously leave the place at like 9am drunk to go to one of the amusement parks....actually, now that I am older...well - that rules.

I love England.

i find greeks to be the rudest bunch of people on the planet as a general, but there again, i dont give a flying fuck.
