Anyone here go to UCLA??

SUp all tranceaddicts
I will be attendin UCLA this fall and rite now am serious about buying turntables. School starts extremely sooon so i am not sure if this is the greatest time to buy them. My question is: is there enough space in the dorms (particularly De Neve) to store turntables safely??

well, from what one of my friends told me, the UCLA dorms are pretty small so I'm not sure if a complete set is gonna fit comfortably.

To be sure your turntables are gonna fit you should hold up on buying them until you've got all your stuff set up in your dorm then see how much space you have to work with. If you think you have enough space to keep them safe, buy 'em.

I went to UCLA but never seen the De NEve dorm rooms. But from what i saw of the sunset dorms the rooms are tiny. you wont be able to fit an entire setup there. And besides.. your neighbors will sure hate you when you do practice into the early morning hours.. hehe. You;d definately need another desk cuz the desks they give you are tiny as well. But they *might* be able to fit. Im not too sure. Just wait till you see your room and then get them.

i brought my turntables with me to USC.

Had them in the dorm and spun all the time.

i hear the dorm's in UCLA are smaller on average than at USC, cuz they have more people there and less space to fit everyone comfortably.
if you haven't bought them yet, then wait till you get htere and see how cool your roomate is with it. if you can make a nice desk for them and your roomate is cool, then by all means get them.

If you have 2 roommates, forget about it...unless you sacrifice your desk and place your tables battle style (vertically instead of horizontally). If you have one roommate, you could try persuading him to bunk the beds and taking the extra space for your gear. But yeah, I'd practice in the afternoon or early in the night to avoid the RA and CSO's beating on your door to turn it down.

Thanks for all your replys everyone. At this point, I am seirously wanting these decks bad!!! ALthough i want em badly, i doubt i may be able to bring them down. Worst case, I could learn on someones elses decks and buy em when i have a room with more space.

erm..the dorms... i think dorm rooms are only big in movies such as Van Vilder and such... the dorm rooms at the University of Washington are small....and i'm assuming they are the same in every other big public college.

I go to UCSD, but ive been to UCLA several times.

Unfortunately, I don't know the names of the dorms though. Some, specifically the ones that are like "high rise apartments" are beyond over packed, where they stick three people into a room that was meant for two. Some others are like normal dorm rooms, which means that there isn't all that much space, but you wouldn't believe how crammed some people are X_X

Unless youve got a hot deal, wait until you check out your room to see if u have room for decks =(
