Johnny Depp: U.s. Is Like A Stupid Puppy

BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Hollywood star Johnny Depp said on Wednesday the United States was a stupid, aggressive puppy and he would not live there until the political climate changed.

The 40-year-old actor, who stars in the "Pirates of the Caribbean," told the German news magazine Stern he was happier staying in the south of France with his wife, the French actress and singer Vanessa Paradis, and their two children.

"America is dumb, it's like a dumb puppy that has big teeth that can bite and hurt you, aggressive," he said.

"My daughter is four, my boy is one. I'd like them to see America as a toy, a broken toy. Investigate it a little, check it out, get this feeling and then get out," said the star of the off-beat films "Edward Scissorhands" and "Dead Man."

Depp slammed George W. Bush's administration for its criticism of French opposition to the U.S.-led war in Iraq.

"I was ecstatic they re-named 'French Fries' as 'Freedom Fries'. Grown men and women in positions of power in the U.S. government showing themselves as idiots," he told Stern

The man's got a point, but I don't think going to the press with it was a wise move. It can only isolate from the American public...

Surely..?

He is even worse living in france. A country where more general strikes happen and a country with no military victories....

Posted by DaveSZ on Sep-03-2003 19:58:

They had a victory somewhere back there.....it's just been a while.

that's kinda like saying 'well, you know what? india's got absolutely no value because they've never really won any wars.'

do you have absolutely any idea how much the french have contributed?

DaveSaenz got it right - he probably loves the country, which is why he's saying this.

a lot of people confusing loving a country with loving its oligarchy.

Posted by Orbax on Sep-03-2003 20:30:

France HAS contributed a lot to the world

in terms of international tension :P

Posted by Psionic on Sep-03-2003 20:37:

America wouldn't even be a country today without France's help.

Posted by torontotrance on Sep-03-2003 20:45:

you mean by losing the north american war to the english....i guess you are right. We have a lot to thank them for....we don't have french rule in north america and because they are inept in war....they threw it away.

Who gives a shit about the military victories. France has more military victories then any other country, ever heard of Napoleon Bonaparte?

I don't know if you can claim more than any other country but he certainly had his fair share.

Except he was corsican not French!

Posted by Blik on Sep-03-2003 21:17:

Posted by infinity HiGH on Sep-03-2003 21:19:

torontotrance, what point are you trying to prove by saying how many victories France has? How does this relate to Depp and him living there?

And when it comes down to it, that's all that really matters.

johnny depp is the man.

he's my favorite actor, altho i really don't keep up on hollywood movies.

he was incredible in fear and loathing

and totaly made pirates of the caribean. that movie was sheit without him.

he never said anything or pledged allegiance too or compared france to america. bunch of peeps seem to assume that cuz he's living in france and says america sucks, then he thinks france is better.
just goes to show whenever someone speaks out about america they strike back against other countries "aggresive little puppies"

he just said america is "an aggressive little puppy"

i agree with him, and i agree with the people saying france ain't any better.
if i were as rich as him i'd just live in france for awhile, then maybe in spain, then maybe in greece, then up in rekjavik, then copenhagen wherever i felt like it
