..::Official TA Movies thread::..

ok, well since i'm quite bored at the moment, have a lot of time to kill, can't sleep really (stupid insomnia), and just remembered that i've completely depleted my list of quality films, i thought i should start this thread and see if you people can come up with some good QUALITY titles to look out for... so, if at all possible, pls refrain from posting about bling-bling cash money bullshit that hollywood seems to be keen on churning out a lot lately...

alright, so recently i saw a couple of really good films, first and foremost:

CITY OF GOD

holy shit, what a brilliant film, i was totally blown away by it... It's a Brazilian production and is based on drugs wars in the 70s, the rise and fall of teenage druglords and so on... it takes place in and around the Rio de Janeiro area, mostly in the slums... I won't go into too many details and ruin the film, but I strongly urge everyone to go see it! The most disturbing thing about the whole film is the ending where they state that the whole film is actually based upon a true story! WOW!

umm, what else, ah ok:

Pirates of the Carribean

Yeah, I know, well, I wasn't gonna go see it at first, simply because it was a Jerry Bruckheimer film, so basically you could pretty much guess what the film would entail, the quick slutty romance, lots of special effects, a happy end, so basically, it would be a waste of time i think (well for me anyways). Now when I heard that Johnny Depp, who btw is one of my fav actors, based his role on Keith Richards, I just had to go see it, and I'm glad I did, cuz I was laffin my ass off throughout the whole film whenever he showed up. So yea, it's definitely worth it to go see it just cuz of him.

i also saw some really shitty films, ie. "Tears of the Sun" (w/Monica Belucci and Bruce Willis), and also "Basic" (w/Samuel L. and Travolta), but i won't bother commenting on them since i'm really trying to forget them... blah

Be Cool!

dOOd. Like all the cool people are checking out GILI, Bad boys, TM3, Cash money with Juvinile and the crew and CHARLIES ANGLES!...

Anyways all jokes aside. Seabiscut is amazing, The trailor doesnt do it justice tho. Even my dad whos the most cultured and well traveled guy around says it was great so i think its worth noting.

If your ever in Toronto or were ever the independant or international film festivals are playing that year i strongly advise you to check them out. Theres allot of amazing films that really go with out any mention in the "mainstream".

Dumb And Dumberer

As an independent movie it is good, it's funny and stuff (plus hot girls ), but as a prequel to Dumb And Dumber it's not that good..

THATS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT WOOOO!!!

A drug person can learn to handle such things as seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to deal with this trip.

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. Your normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop-heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Clerk at Mint Hotel: Can I call you a cab? Police Chief: Sure, and I'll call you a cocksucker!

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like I feel a bit lightheaded. Maybe you should drive. Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?! Did you say something? Hm? Nevermind. It's your turn to drive. No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. Poor bastard will see them soon enough.

you actually liked gangs of new york? i found it such a waste of time... anyways, fear and loathing is wicked, blow was cool too... dude, you should seriously check out Hurly Burly (w/Sean Penn, Meg Ryan...), since it seems like you like movies that deal with getting wasted on drugs... you'll love it, trust me!

'Memento' was a pretty good movie, better than I expected. I love twist endings like that. Also liked 'Unbreakable' and 'Sixth Sense' for their similar twist endings.

Ferris Bueller's day off CLASSIC!!

Posted by mute79 on Sep-09-2003 17:25:

agreed, memento was pretty good

requiem for a dream was really disturbing, but its one of those films that has got to be seen, really mind openning...

speaking of those, has anyone here seen "Baraka" by Ron Fricke, came out around '92?

I am looking forward to seeing that when I get the chance. Over 2000 actors/actress and sooo many locations through ONE camera shot?????

Also, for Hong Kong movie fans, check out A BETTER TOMORROW - one of the most important and influential HK movies ever made.

That's a truly amazing feat indeed! The movie would've been worth it for the camera gimmick alone but the story is top-notch as well
