Straight Vs. S-shaped tonearms?
Can anyone give me a breakdown on the pros and cons of straight vs. S-shaped tonearms? I'm not interested much in scratching either.
A straight tone arm is better for scratching. I am not sure why, but I've have read it somewhere. I guess it helps keep the needle on the record when scratching.
the straight tone arm also wears out records quicker though i've not had that problem yet
skybreak, where did u hear this?
i've always believed that the s arm wears the record out quicker bcuz of its need for anti-skate which puts pressure on the grooves of the record...
blinky; if u have the money, i recommend the vestax pdx2000 (ah....)
Oh well, thanks for the advice. I just ordered a package which has Numark TT-100's in it though. Vestax was not an option for my budget. I wouldnt be able to afford vinyl or a parties for 6 months then. Anyway, I've only spun for about a total of three hrs. in my life. I just want something to learn on and move up to Technics or Vestax if I get good enough to play out w/o everyone leaving!!!
