Help !! Bad sound quality from TT's

Help I think something is wrong!!! I just got my 2 Technics 1200MK2's with Stanton 500ALII stylus. After setting everything up, I am now playing my records and the sound quality just sucks!! The bass is all muffled and there seems to be quite a bit of hissing. What can I do to fix this? I think it mite have something to do with the stylus

Put more weight on the needles

With phono connections (such as the one between your turntable and your mixer) you must make sure that the ground wire is connected to the grounding terminal on your mixer. The ground wire is the little wire that accomanies the RCA leads from your turntable. Also, you must make sure that your turntables are connected to the PHONO input on your mixer, NOT the line-in/cd-in/aux input. Hope this helps, and congrats on getting decks my friend!

/me wishes for such a day

I've made sure my tables are grounded and both TT"s are connected to the Phono jack. I did add more weight on the needles. THat seemed to help quite a bit. I have a feeling its something with my mixer: Behringer DJX700

behringer mixers = bad sound quality. you get what you pay for, and they aren't USD$200 just because behinger are nice people

I disagree with that. I have a behringer mixer connected to a 250W amplifier, and, I don't have ANY problems concerning sound quality.

anyway.
I've read that the PCA cables of the sl1200's aren't that decent (the only thing that you better change). So, I suggest you try another cable. Maybe that will work. Make sure the GND wire is conncecterd very good to the mixer.

how much needle pressure are you applying?

i haven't read all the posts...

but check the cartridges themselves. the wires could be fuct. and maybe the contacts from the cartridge to the tonearm are fuct a bit and need to be cleaned?

anything else i think has been mentioned.

Sound quality is alrite now.. just a bit hissing on the extremes highs and heavy bass. My needle pressure is set to 1.5 grams

I am not totally sure, but 1.5 grams is a little low for those carts *I think*..

when you put the needles on the tonearms, did you balance them?
