Unhappy any 56k users

Just wondering... coz sometimes I feel like the only one who's sitting waiting for about half an hour just to connect to the net, while the rest of yous are downloading livesets, or listening to online radio or whatnot

What the hell is 56k ??
I used to be on 56k modem for 2 years (97-99), but then I got my hands on 10mbit cable for 39.99 and couldnt be happier, IM NEVER GOING BACK TO DIALUP, I'll kill myself 1st

Example:
56k modem = 10mb file = 1 1/2 - 2 hours
Cable = 10mb file = 30-60 seconds

are you on 56k because you live in STIRLING, ONT ??

get your self Look Satellite, you won't be able to get bi-direction high speeds, but atleast you could get downloads fast

LOL, no he means Stirling in Scotland I'm guessing, from his flag. There are however still a lot of area's in Scotland that don't have Cable. If you live North of Glasgow and aren't in a city or a large residential area then you've got basically no chance.

Posted by chojin on Sep-14-2003 19:41:

once you've got cable you can never go back. only up in speed

Posted by EliPsE on Sep-14-2003 19:42:

10mbit cable for 39.99 ?? Thats ridiculous

56k... hahahahahahahhahahahahha

I'm on 56k too. But not by choice. No broadband where I am.

I download livesets at the University. But that incurs the wrath of the system admin, risks me getting booted and risks possible jail time.

But I still must do it.

Posted by Incantation_UK on Sep-14-2003 20:35:

Today is my last ever day with 56K. Tommorrow I'll truly be running on premium instead of diesel!

I'm in a small city... a large residential area anyway, but there's no cable here... ADSL was enabled on the nearest exchange, but my house is too far away from it (maybe something to do with being in quite a new housing estate?)...ah well, there's still a bit of hope supposedly, but I can just about survive

i am still on 56k

Posted by ali92 on Sep-15-2003 00:37:

Well, I've been on 56K since 2001-09-17... I download MP3s almost every day for at least 8 hours/day all year long... I now have over 90 CDs full of compressed audio and it's constantly growing. I'll hit the century mark (100) soon. Now, I plan to finally get broadband (ADSL) by year's end. Multimedia downloading is the ONLY thing in this world that's driving consumer broadband.

For the geeks out there, I'm sure you are all aware of Australia's boardband situation. Because of this I am still on 56K hehehe and yes it sucks donkey's balls!

Posted by whiskers on Sep-15-2003 01:17:

i used to be on 56k... but now i'm at uni and it's 700+ k/s at it's best, which is like, wicked fast.

i can even run my own server.

i'm not looking forward to returning to the horrible 56k line at home.

Posted by Clyde77 on Sep-15-2003 01:18:
