Yeah, I just heard that PA, VA, and the inner NE are getting hit head on from Isabel. It's gonna be nasty.

Good thing it wasn't Hurricane Shineekwa.

Nrjizer. Just so you know its not a thunderstorm. Its a hurricane. Albeit it has many strong storms inside of it. According to the The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale it is borderline between a category 4 and a category 5, meaning that the relative wind speeds are roughly 155 mph (this is not accounted with the velocity of the hurricane either.

Quickstep, there arent any direct warnings yet for the coast. This is because out to 2-3 days is when meteorologists can tell exactly where the storm will go. anything past 3 days is probabilistic. meaning computers compute where they think the hurricane will go with the associated weather patterns that are going on right now. For example, the cold front that is slowly pushing its way across the US (And is just west-northwest of FL) is going to play a big factor in not only the movement of the storm, but also the intensity it will have as it continues to push its way to the coast.

and btw for those wondering what site i go that from... I didnt. I am a senior meteorology student right now!

Oh yipee! As if I didn't have enough rain this year I'm going to get pounded with even more. I can't wait!

I'm so fucking sick of rain, it's ruined all of my outdoor plans this year. My most current one was going to the NHRA drag races this weekend, which were canceled due to rain. But, I drove 3 hours in it before I decided to turn around and head home figuring that it would be called.

Hope it doesn't cause much damage

Oh christ, if it stays on course it will go right through my hometown.

No u don't.

That last one is really sad. Those pics are from Andrew in 1992 (which has about the same winds as Isabel...I mean Shemeekwa).

Unfortunately Isabel is a category 5 hurricane, the highest you can get on the scale, adn stronger than hurricane andrew (category 4). Mix this in with the fact that the projected path are taking it on a sweep through D.C., baltimore, and possibly NJ, maybe even NYC, that its very slow moving (9 mph), and we're looking at a serious fucking problem here... currently the sustained winds are at 150 mph. Of coures this is only at the eye, but even the edges of it carry 50+ mph winds and can drop tornadoes anywhere, as well as a shit load of rain.

The good news is that earlier predictions had it first moving due west, then on a curve towards the SC/GA coast, and now on a very sharp curve north, so maybe it will curve out even farther and just blow out to sea.

Edit: latest track:
