canucks dont have to worry about the RIAA

http://techcentralstation.com/081803C.html

"On March 19, 1998, Part VIII of the (Canadian) Copyright Act dealing with private copying came into force. Until that time, copying any sound recording for almost any purpose infringed copyright, although, in practice, the prohibition was largely unenforceable. The amendment to the Act legalized copying of sound recordings of musical works onto audio recording media for the private use of the person who makes the copy (referred to as "private copying"). In addition, the amendment made provision for the imposition of a levy on blank audio recording media to compensate authors, performers and makers who own copyright in eligible sound recordings being copied for private use."

thats neat, not only is okay to steal direct tv (direct tv is not allowed to do business in canada), but also you dont have to deal with RIAA's bs or the P.A.T.R.I.O.T. Act. canada is sounding more like the home of the free, or the states is becoming to much home of the greedy corporations

yeah since nothing on there is good, cept for probaly less than a dozen channels seriously though, of course its not okay to steal, but since direct tv wont show more canadian programing, they are banned from there. dtv doesnt have complete control of their satellite signal to block canada, but its there, so why not take advantage of it.

i really wish i could order a service with just the channels i want, not 100+ of garbage

Be Cool!

LOL!!! i was wondering how long it would take for this to get on the boards. AH i cant tell u guyz how amazing it is in Canada, we have this spanish imigrant who came to us one day and was like. "

" Hey man jo wana free DTV satilite dish?.. I coulod hook jo up for like a one time fee and then its just a few paicos to reprogram your card when it gets zapped. every few months"

We were all like cool sure. So he came over with the stuff set it all up and programed a card for us with his laptop. It was crazy. After a few hundred bux we had 999 channels of free TV., tonz of movies, AND OMG LIKE 20 CHANNELS OF PORN 24/7. I was boot leggin movies for a long long time.

THey advertise service and systems in the small papers EVERWERE so theres no excuse for not getting one if your a TV junkie.

THere startign a advertising campaign asking people to rat on there neighbours so people can get harased by these shit companies. HOWEVER i doupt anyones stupid enough to do that.

So yeah thats abotu it for my TV, Oh ya for all u people who think SAT TV is the be all and end all. ITS SOOO NOT, for me it ended up being a waste of time as 95% of American programing is compleat bull shit(no offence dun flame me) i found myslef hooking up my antena and watching TVO and PBS just so that i didnt go insane. In the end ive unpluged it and its in my atic waiting for a rainyday.

I think they've started tightening down on this bit, but while it wasn't being enforced, I used to go buy my own systems requiring 1 yr contract and it would come with 2 free boxes/cards...you know the deals you see on TV (best buy/radio shack). Then after one year, cancel the service. Then do it again...get 2 free box system, say with Dish TV now....Then, sell the other 2 old systems separately (as is) via auction and repeat yearly. Now anyone can buy a box/card for a second room pay DTV/dish $5 for (another unit subscription) and go on their merry way...not a bad deal for people that only had one unit back in the day (my parents)...but the kicker was Canadians were buying my systems for way more money...about $75... and what they did was...well you know. Heck I just sent the card sometimes, they didn't even want the receiver. Sigh..that was a couple years back...I think they should pay for services...they do have their own Sat companies (BellExpressview, RogersATT, etc) which is partly owned by US companies (I thought)...so if they used those cards to steal...:/

But as for me...it was like 4 months free satellite. ($35/mo for DTV and selling my old system for $150...do the math)

Of course now I have cable...because they would raise my internet rates if I only had internet and not cable...bastard monopolizers...but that's another story....gotta find new ways to make more money.
