Thinking of buying a DJM-3000... are these good? Any experience with them?

Just bought my first set of tables, 1200 MKII's. Now I need a mixer and I'm looking to get the DJM-3000. Has anyone had any expericence with these? Commments? Complaints?

Thanks!

i have my heart set on one of those as well after playing with one. looking to get the rotary option on them *drool*

cool, sounds good so far! i figured i'd start off with the best...

excellent mixer, same effects as the djm600, but no sampler, and a lot cheaper. I would love to put the rotary option in, but it's not cheap. Maybe if/when the x-fader dies i'll put the rotaries in as well, cos i find the channels a little sharp at the bottom of the curve

The DJM3000 is certainly the best of the DJM series... It's a 600 without the sampler and a few other useless things, and alot of little additions. It also seems to play smoother than the 600... and it's not so dang huge.

but, IMHO, your money would be better invested in a rane empath or allen & heath xone series mixer.

But, the 3000 is still a great box and does the trick well.. I just dont think it's quite worth $800 or so. all the DJM's are a bit pricey for what you get, though..

Wish I could afford Technics

allen & heaths are dope I hear... but expensive!

I just picked up the Allen & Heath Xone:62 for $924.00. To put it plainly, it's the best mixer i've ever worked with.

Dunno

I have played with the DJM 3000 many times at a buddys house. It's quite an amazing mixer, much like my DJM 600 in many respects, execpt for the obvious featurs (3000 being 19in, not having sampler etc.). But it does have some cool effects for the cross fader, it was fun for a bit, not very usable for what I'm trying to do with, it may be for you, but if you were to get any of the DJM pioneer series mixers, I would hihgly recommend the 600. Its the best for your money, and you get much more respect having it, and YES I do use that sampler like its my job. I use most of the effects, and for trance I love this thing, if there is anyone in Nashville who has an Xone 62 I would love to try it to see how much better this mixer ( with no effects) is better than my 600 for home and small to medium club use. But let me say somthing about my 600, i got it for 700 bucks thats why I bought it, the 3000 is usally cheaper than 600, so really if you dont need a sampler( if you tink you wont use it), than get the 3000, and save your money, just remember the mixer is huge though, but you do have the option, like someone else siad, to have the rotry option, which would kick some serious ass. It was like this for me when I was deciding between TTX-1's and 1200's, I got the TTX-1's and havent regreted it yet. Happy hunting!

well i picked up a couple 1200's and the djm-3000 so i'm pretty excited.. thanks for all your help guys!

holdup, the sampler on the djm600 is hardly useless
but that said if your not going to miss it, go the 3000 - its a beautiful mixer

has anyone gone out and fitted the rotary option? is it as good as it would seem, was it worth the expense?

Posted by TwiloNYC on Sep-22-2003 02:15:

I've had a chance to play with one for a short time. I cant give you an indepth review but it takes some getting used to if you're used to the normal sliders. However, for those long mixes, I find the rotaries to be so much better. I felt like I had much more control and it felt/sounded much smoother....

I love my 3000... I can't complain. definitely nice. If I was patient i would have went with the xone 62.. but I honestly can't complain with this either.

The main reasons I'm going w/ the 3000 are:
- 19" rack mount
- Matches my CMX-3000
- Rotary Option
- Fader Effects for my CMX!
- 4 Channels
- Built in Effects
- Going for the all black equipment look

If these dont matter to you, you should def look @ Tascam X-9, Rane Empath and the A&H Xone also.

Well I played a club with a DJM 3000 a while back and heres what i have to say:

Nice mixer overall, works well, has the typical pioneer efx that they throw in there, flanger, delay, etc. I like the 19" layout and rotary option, but...
I dont think its the best mixer there is, and its not cheap at all. Firstly the sound quality is not as good as many other mixers in the pricerange, a lot of home users will not notice this, but take it to a club where you've got a lot of power to play with and you can hear the loss of frequencies and some induced distortion. The efx will get used rarely, so dont really make that a primary reason to get one, you can always buy pioneer efx controller to plug into any mixer. Also i dont like the headphone cue setup, i cant pinpoint what it was that pissed me off, but i wasnt having a good time trying to get a mix of cue and playing tracks.

For 19 inch mixers i would reccomend the Allen&Heath Xone 32, its 19" has incredible sound quality and most importantly high quality rotary faders, which i find most djs perfer to sliders. If you look at the touring setups of most big DJs they bring a Xone with them, and many clubs have then installed as the house mixer. Vestax also has a 19" mixer in the PCM series (i forget the model) that has rotary faders (important because they increase sound quality for mixes and dont induce noice like faders can) and its got 4 channels as well. Both of these are expensive mixers, but if you are looking at a DJM-3000 then you arent too far off anyway.

Thats my 2-cents.

Last time I checked, the A&H Xone 32 is a 10-12" mixer with 3 channels. The only rack mount A&H Xones are the 464 (HUGE! ENORMOUS!) and the V6. The only A&H Xone mixer with Rotaries is the V6... which is arguably one of the best mixers made today but also costs over $6,000 (I'd personally go eith the Rane MP2016 setup if we're talking $3,000+ on a mixer). So, I have no clue what you're refering to.

You also mentioned the Vestax PMC46MKII. It only Hi/Low Eqs, no filters, no effects and costs nearly $1500 compared to the DJM 3000 which has a street price of ~750.... That's pretty far off.

Posted by danieldavid on Sep-24-2003 00:38:

My bad, you are correct i meant the Xone V6, yes very expensive, but also one of the best (once you get up there its hard to pick a winner)and i didnt know that a 3000 was only costing $750, i thought they were going for over a grand. Anyway my opinions still stand that its not the greatest mixer for the money.

Thx,

Posted by TwiloNYC on Sep-24-2003 04:09:

For Medium to small clubs, the 3000 is more than adequate. I've seen huge clubs set ups w/ a DJM600 which has identical components.

I agree however, that there are better mixers for the money.. but not many choices in the 19" rack mount format. If it came down between a DJM 600 and other 10-12" mixers in that price range, then I would definitely have a hard time deciding. Rane, A&H, Ecler and Vestax make very nice mixers in that format.
