Paul Oakenfold tour in America for "Great Wall" of China

Oakenfold is coming to America to promote the realease of his new album "Great Wall" of China. His single Hypnotised (Kowalski & Deepsky remix) sounds off the hook. From his interview on MinistryofSound it sounds like the album is very melodic. Nice to hear that as a TA. Have a feeling this album will drop a few frequent rotations on the radio and in the clubs worldwide.

I really do hope that Oakie can get back what he once had. He is extraordinarily talented but I think that he needs to focus.

I'm still enthralled with many of his pre-2000 sets.

I know he will be doing a gig for Glow, most likely at the DC Tunnel...for some reason they dont see it fit to bring PvD, Tiesto, or Armin there though

ugh why is that?! i bet glow would make SO much more money if they had (at least) their big names come to tunnel. so i assume they arent moving at all? i was so looking forward to seeing armin and tiesto and actually being able to breathe this time.

and i think for pvd im not even gonna TRY to get anywhere near the front, its just gonna be a mob scene

im very happy about this!

Posted by umes23 on Sep-18-2003 15:15:

than think of one of the most amazing progressive trance songs created...... "tyrantanic", slacker's remix. think of oakenfold jumping around like a fool behind the decks playing this amazing but out of place song in his set. think of people loving the track waiting for it to hit its climax in a few seconds. and to make a nightmare come true, think of oakie literally crossfading to another channel (over 4 seconds), with completely unmatched beat, straight into another song, cutting off the best climax of the evening. in addition, think about the fact that the song had no place in his set and then think about him so unprofessionally cutting it off...... this was the precise moment in an oakenfold gig that i lost my respect for this man AS A SUPERSTAR DJ.

he has done a lot of things for the scene etc etc. its when his name pops up as number 5 or whatever year after year that i cant take it. he is not the DJ that everyone in this world has made him out to be. a "superstar" DJ has to have a lot of strengths that make him stand out strictly in the DJ-ing arena. oakey has a lot of weaknesses. the thing that makes him stand out is his history. a true case of success and an influence to a new world scene, thats what he is....

it will always remain my opinion that as a DJ, he is not worthy of all the respect he receives - it might have been earned, but not strictly because of his talents as a live DJ, but more so because of other reasons, and also his timing and involvement in the growth of this music. as a live dj, you and i could put up a better set. the term trainwreck was invented for him!

i wasnt just making fun of him talking out my ass. there is a reason why i do this..... theres something about him as a DJ that most people aren't willing to realize. well, if you guys all see him in his different dates for this tour, SOMEONE is bound to realize what i did a couple years ago....

you guys dont have to agree with me or go to war either. i just thought all these pro-oakey messages were probably in response to my criticism, which has now been explained.

Posted by DJ A.i on Sep-18-2003 15:19:

yea.. would love to see oakie..... i hope he focus' more on the trance scene again. I really thought for awhile that he was mainly focusing himself with commercial and radio play stuff.... so i really hope this album will be great.

Posted by umes23 on Sep-18-2003 15:29:

btw, i would gladly check out his album....

my criticism of him is strictly as a DJ, not so much as a producer....

Posted by Greedy on Sep-19-2003 00:47:

hes gonna be in houston with some hip hop groups. multi talent in different genres. hes my hero.
