SFU - anyone?

Ok, so its 2:30 and I have another hour before my last class so I figure I'll just diddle around with the internet, maybe read some of my History book, who knows.

Just curious if anyone else on the boards goes here; I know a few go to UBC (at least I think some of you do).

It's my first year, and I'm basically doing some General Studies. So far it's been ok, although you reallllly have to make an effort to know people, which is a definite change from Highschool where it seemed like everyone was friends with everyone.

So yea, the bus sucks, although I have this expensive routine of burning a new cd for every day which kind of makes it better.

i've been there for 4 yrs now........... still no end in sight lol

i dont think there are many TAs who go to SFU
there's Arpy (ph1), Angelo not sure if he just works for CJSF, and me

erik, you'd be surprised how few people from our grade ended up at SFU right away, most went to douggie kindergarden (no offense to anyone )

Yea theres still some construction, I get the feeling that its been going on for...well, a long time.

I was kind of disapointed in the clubs day or whatever, I got the impression that there would be super fabulous clubs, but theres just the usual. Although I did get preached to by an anti-tuition girl and that got exciting

*sigh* the construction
it all started when it took them over a year to fix the road up to the hell, except they stoped right after the light UGH

clubs day kinda sucks yeah
there's a day in the welcoming week when radio ppl play, last year mirka was dropping some trance, kinda blew me away to hear trance like that in the open

oh yeah, in the parking lot behind the applied science building, they are building a macdonald's

"Road up to the hell" or do you mean up to the hill?

No idea who are the TAs at UBC. There's me, Sean and don't know who else...

hheh who does she think will pay her tuition! UofT used to have a lot of communists, or Markist-Lenninists, or whatever, but I think that most of them have failed out. They would want to give you one of their pamphlets called "the workers voice" or some crap... plus they would always be wearing these crazy outfits consisting of tweed robes and bare feet... it was pretty funny.

anyways I didn't want to rip on SFU, since I don't know firsthand what it's like... but the stories are always so discouraging. I know my step brother was at 'douggie daycare' for 3 years before going to SFU. he's all psyched that he's at SFU and out of that hole, so I guess it can't be that bad

Douglas College in New West.

Yea I saw Brian the other day and he looked pretty determined

I don't know how long I'll last in any school right now, it just doesn't feel like its for me (at least right now) but I think I'll tough out this semester, then go away somewhere.

you know what, tough it out, and stay

my first semester was the worst. i was a standard B-student in high school, in my first semester at SFU i went on academic probation as a matter of fact a friend of mine did too and his gf hehehe

after that, it gets easier cause you get to know the system, how it works. i noticed that profs who teach first year courses are assholes, feels like they are trying to scare you away. as you get into higher lever courses, profs get nicer and more comprehensible

Brian has been wanting to go to SFU for a while now, i talked to him a couple of weeks ago, he was super excited, wish i could be that excited about school

erik, where are you at right now?

Posted by SparcZ on Sep-18-2003 16:14:

Let's face it folks, it's not where you go to school but what you do after you get out. I went to "Dougie Daycare" and graduated with a computer information systems diploma. After I graduated I started reading more than I did while I was there and still continue to do so.

I am at Athabasca finishing my last year of the B. Mgmt and working full-time. Out of all my friends with degrees I earn more than anyone of them. There are exceptions like friends that have a Masters or are doctors but regular degrees don't mean much these days. Realize that once you get out of school you are just beginning to learn and that will never end.

Also NETWORK! NETWORK! NETWORK!

Posted by rev on Sep-18-2003 16:44:

yup, I've been doing a degree at SFU, but right now on a long coop doing wed devel with some buddies

sfu sucks in the winter! I used to go to UVic and UWaterloo and both campuses were much much much nicer

Posted by apri_peel on Sep-18-2003 20:16:

sfu is very depressing on days like today, especially when its winter, it gets dark at 4pm, its foggy 15hrs of the day, its constantly raining and all you see is this grey architecture.

weird how i saw rob and caleb today tho, of all the people

at home in new west. I failed last semester at school so now I have to wait until January to repeat it.

anyways I found that first year wasn't the hardest, just the most intimidating. 2nd was harder but most people weren't as psyched out.

Hey guys, I'm a first year student at UBC. I'm new to this town (I'm from near Toronto) so any help with respect to good clubs, maybe some guestlist hookups (wink wink haha) is always appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to stay active on this board as well but first year can sometimes be a bitch.
