The great debate - Sean Quinn

I love a good fight....

Does he suck or not?

I quite like his older stuff....and when he's switched on he can rock like no other IMHO....

What do others think?

Posted by -=M=- on Sep-17-2003 16:57:

i reckon he's good in the ugly-sexy kinda way :P

LUVIN IT!!!

He can be a bit hit and miss. I saw him here in Adelaide a couple of months ago for a 'our house' gig with kasey, and he was awesome. But had seen him earlier in the year and he was shite. You just never no.

Posted by Philby on Sep-18-2003 03:14:

i think the only time i saw him was after sasha last year, and i wasn't really into it much. but i guess it was good if you like that kinda stuff

I really enjoyed his closing set at Summadayze this year, but my opinion of him will forever be coloured by PvD @ Melbourne Park 2002...

[...closing strains of For an Angel]

"Let's thank Paul van Dyk!!!"

*massive applause and cheering*

"Now, here's Sean Quinn to take you home!"

*cue deep, dark prog*

*everybody leaves*

the dude lost the plot 3 years ago.... plays BORING music, which doesnt even resemble music you can actually dance to, & has NEVER let young talent shine through .... there is no debate. he SUCKS!!!

Posted by SoupaFlys on Sep-18-2003 04:59:

he can be good. but those instances are coming a bit few and far between lately me thinks. just doesn't get the place going enough. very often builds up to nothing.

Posted by Ghostface on Sep-18-2003 06:06:

I saw him briefly at GK Melb last year and a for a few hours as part of an our house gig with kasey in april.

While he seemed to be enjoying what he was doing, it was pretty fucking boring. It wasn't like he built and built to destination nowhere, it was more just play driving plod plod one after the other. I was pretty dissapointed because I really love his balance cd and still listen to it fairly often.

Posted by Slade on Sep-18-2003 07:55:

he's too much of a coke fiend

kasey taylor rocks tho

Posted by Dr P on Sep-18-2003 11:11:

gee not much debating going on..

hmm....I have this wierd feeling that in about six months views may be a bit different...will have to wait and see

Posted by webmeister on Sep-18-2003 12:52:

He's never really been my style TBH....

I guess I'm the only one in here that likes him then.

I think the problem is they get him to do too many closing sets when he's not really that sort of DJ. It's hard to come on after a big name, big room DJ and keep people going with progressive music. Kasey Taylor's usually the only one who can pull it off, but that's because he has such a distinct sound that stands alone that he can still come on after a big name DJ and hold his own. Sean Quinn, as much as I like him, just isn't really capable of coming on after a big name and having an impact.

He should really do the warm-up sets instead: I think the only two times I've seen him do a "warm up" set he's been pretty bloody good. When he played right before Dave Seaman at the GU think back in Jan 2002 he almost stole the show and he was good at Two Tribes 03 as well when he and Kasey played back to back melodic sets. I think Kasey needs to do the closing sets, or - if he's not avalible (which is quite a lot these days :-/) - maybe give someone like Mark James a go, as he generally knows how to play out to a crowd.

So Sean Quinn = Good, Sean Quinn Closing = Not so good.

Yeah, that was Kasey dude. I don't think Sean Quinn played that night.

Hmmm.... you sure? It was definately Kasey Taylor straight after Sasha, because I remember my mate from uni saying "I've got a feeling that Kasey's gonna come on after this and tear the joint apart" and I can remember sending him an SMS later on saying "You weren't wrong" when he came on. Although Sean Quinn may have played a set after that of course if that's what you mean....

Posted by Philby on Sep-18-2003 15:51:

i dunno, that was too long ago hehe
i think the whole night i kept waiting for the music to build up and get faster, but it never did

Posted by Philby on Sep-18-2003 16:15:

yeah sean quinn was the last guy on when we left, he played after taylor. i think i remember liking one of them, but like i said it just felt like it was building up then going nowhere, and then falling back down again.

Posted by Zerotonin on Sep-19-2003 01:57:

He lost it a few years back I reckon, although he rocked it at Summadayze in 2002, Quinn played Steve Mason - Conception vessel & it went off. But generally his sets don't go anywhere.

Posted by Dr P on Sep-19-2003 06:31:

funny you should say hes not a closer cause the first time I saw him he was closing and is still most memorable part of night/morning for me...

Posted by Fiction on Sep-19-2003 06:33:

Have to agree with most comments here, I think he's a fat little hasbeen feeding the cokeheads & skanky DJ groupies...

Posted by JulesPLees on Sep-19-2003 06:51:

Sean Quinn was the king of the close for about 8 years....

Danny Howells was PLaying some pretty bangin prog tech towards the end there and Sean Quinn could have easily gone off on his little journey of minimal prog stuff...but he didnt...first track was some ultra melodic stuff...the crowd went ooohh and most of em stayed till the end of the night...when he droppped a new just finished solo track...its gunna be big..

Posted by Dr P on Sep-19-2003 07:04:

so JulesPLees is a SQ fan... fair enough in fact it doesn't really surprise me.

I remember the days when he was doing clubbers breakfast on KISSFM that was just classic I think that is why I like him cause it was always a crack up...

Posted by JulesPLees on Sep-19-2003 07:28:

Hard Kandy used to cop a fair shelacking
