PVD - Nothing But You

Since PVD's cd "Reflections" is coming out in a couple of weeks (October 7 to be exact .. in the United States. going to the local Virgin Megastore first thing in the morning to pick up the cd, even tough i have like five of PVD's live mixes that contain 80% of all the songs from the cd, i'm still buying the cd. i don't know about anywhere else, like Canada and Europe. You guys probably have it right now), I have to bring up this topic. It is about his first single "Nothing But You". I know this song is like real old and everything, but I have been getting mixed reviews about this song. I hear stuff from "one of PVD's best", "awesome track", "best of 2003", and "uplifting song with good female echo touch" to "cheese factor", "awful song", "humming drives me crazy", and "regular beat, but then what".

i want to hear what you guys think about the song. how did you feel when you first heard it? does the song still rise the hair everytime you hear it? do you still listen to it, even though you heard it thousands of times? To me, it still gives me goosebumps everytime i hear it. i love the damn song. hahahahahah

When I first heard it, I was just getting into trane...it was one of the first songs I heard. So, naturally I thought it was a very good song. After getting into trance a little more and listening to more of his stuff...its not a bad song...but I dont think its his best..

Well it wasn't THAT AMAZING when I first heard it...cause everyone knows it's a sample from "Hemstock & Jennings - Arctic". So it wasn't something completely new.

I do like how PvD took out that annoying synth line though...made it more calm and soothing.

I wouldn't say it's one of PvD's best (For An Angel and Another Way are by far), but it's still a ch00n.

I'm going to se Paul van Dyk this Tuesday, and i can promise.. if he plays this tune I'll go nuts, even though I've heard it a million times..

well you also have to consider that all of paul's BEST stuff has been non vocal, among his better vocal songs are "Together we will conquer" and "we're alive" not to mention "tell me why" which imho are better than "nothing but you." also with new remixes of iio coming out, "nothing but you" is starting to grow out of my favor...

currently my fav new vocal tune is "IIO - smooth (airbase remix)" if anyone has a promo copy they would be willing to sell please let me know...hehe

It seems to be one of those that you either love or hate. Although I am a bit sick of it, I still remember when I first heard it and it blew me away. Definitely his best tune this year.

This song made me love PVD, and its one of the only songs that never gets old for me.

I think it is a great track! It's got a good beat i think. But i can't believe people call it cheeze, anything could be cheeze then i guess

i think time of our lives is much better, and i can't wait for his album to come out and hear what other wonders paul van dyk has been able to cook up for us this time :-).

Full on vocal mix of We're Alive. The beginning. The guitars with the little cymbals in perfect sync. Eargasms.

nothing but you is one of the few pvd songs i like! it gets a bit annoying after a while though..

I don''t like it much, the vocals annoy me and the tune doesn't really go anywhere

Paul`s Original Mix! is all that matters!

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Sep-20-2003 17:10:

If only it were original...

Posted by arturob on Sep-20-2003 17:14:

due to the fact that is a collaboration between Paul, Les Hemstock and Chris Jennings; and the song is actually produced by Paul, yes: it is original

Damn straight Anyways, I think the first experience with the song has a lot to do with it. The first time I heard this song was on Holloween night and it was jam packed in Avalon and it was simply amazing, the song tore the roof off the place. I think that was the best clubbing night in recent memory.

If you want to own the vinyl this one has the best mix (cirrus mix):

Nothing But You (original) still does it for me. I think it's Paul's best production over the last year.

And how much difference is there between the PvD Club Mix and the Original, aside from the Tetris noises?

Posted by Carbon14 on Sep-21-2003 04:20:

the first time i heard this track was the in live @ amnesia set from this site - i was totally blown away because i'd never heard a song that had such cavernous open synths in the background like it did... and i was blown away. he spun it at the end of the set too and i kinda figured it was his "main anthem" for all his ibiza gigs that year. when i saw pvd live (for the second time) right after that he didn't spin any of the songs i loved from the first time (dreamland, club attack, general politiks of dancing era stuff) but he DID spin nothing but you 3 freaking times. i liked it each time granted but didn't feel it the same way i felt for an angel or we're alive (same night). when the single came out (club version) i /hated/ it bc it didn't go ANYWHERE but thank god reflections has the original version he was spinning because it is loads better than the club version. i am convinced the club version is for him to drop only in a very very high energy set (and with that, only playing thru about half the track because the whole thing is so damn boring)
lol long post

By itself its a good tune... but its definately a party track. Wait till you hear it live (especially as the last tune of the night!) and then pass judgement

Thumbs up Great track, great album, but ...

But ... no match for his older work, especially the truly amazing Out There And Back , Global CD/DVD , Seven Ways, 45 RPM ... n stuff. But I'll give it a trumbs up. Nothing But You is a fine track. No disappointments. A bit of underachivement maybe? ... ..
