Ignite - Elevated (halo_6 'Strung Out' mix)

Something a little different for you all this is a remix of my friend Dom's track, which he posted up here about 2-3 weeks ago, he recieved some pretty good feedback. I've brought the percussion out more into the mix, added some evil bass and some quirky electro fx. Sounds like a totally different track - and one which Dom is very happy with, hope you guys like it

as always - if you download/listen to it - i'd love to hear some thoughts.

absolutely fucking amazing
the vocal is mad, if a bit long
but i like, a lot

I only like the beginning (the 1st 2 minutes), then I think it gets too acidic and I hate the vocals totally.

lol - talk about both sides of the coin

i knew that the dialogue would be a love it or hate it affair - i reckon that those who know what it is will like it that little bit more, not sure whether to shorten it though, cos it fits the section perfectly - but on the other hand, it's 90 seconds long - so i dunno.

anyone else up for something a little out of the ordinary?? take a chance

Fantastic work once again. I'm curious, how have you got this good in such a short time?

I've enjoyed everything you've posted so far, and i've been at it longer than you, yet you pwn me production wise

Nice production here, nice electro feel to it, wicked fx as well. I'm slightly in favour of canning the vocals, they don't really fit imo

The piano is wicked as well, really fits in. That high pitched clicky sort of synth that you seem to use in all your tracks is ok, electro-ish , but it can get a tad annoying at times.

Anyhow, overall, it's another fantastic song; really original. Top stuff

wow arctic - unexpected praise as for me getting so good in such a short space of time - i still feel i have a loooooong way to go - but i practice all the time, and listen to a LOT of music - so thats bound to have some positive effect i'm sure

i'm thinking of making an instrumental version or maybe finding a different shorter dialogue - i'm unsure at the moment, i'll wait until a few other people comment on it - i like it with and without the vocal to be honest

The vocals in first day fit really well, but i just don't know about these ones.

As for the first paragraph, so do i, but apparently it hasn't helped me much

you see with First Day, i built the track around the vocal - with this one i tacked the dialogue on at the end, after the composition was done, i think this was my mistake lol - instrumental version here we come

i think alan played me this last night actually.. sounded nice but i was well stoned at the time.. ill dl it

Percussion sounds a little flat. I guess i could get used to the bass, but it just sounds a little too filtered almost takes attention away from other things. Electro sounds in the buildup are more annoying than atmospheric. I like melody, but i think its level could come up a bit or maybe bring them out with more mastering. Obviously i could live without the vocal, but its not that bad, doesnt really fit with the track however, would be nice if they said something that kind of set the track off into breakdown. Also if you are gonna stick with the vocal it should be brought out of the mess a little so you can actually pay some attention to it, like PQM-You are sleeping.

Other than those things i think this is good work, just needs some levels adjusted, the percussion changed around a little, and some good mastering. Gives off a good progressive feeling, but doesn't really delve into trance in my opinion. And i think i get what you mean by 'strung-out' mix i can sort of feel the tension!

Thanks for the reply danieldavid, however a few things i don't agree with on, mostly about the vocal - i think it fits with the track more each time i listen to - and the majority of people who have listened agree, so the people not liking the vocals is in the minority, also about bringing them out a little more like in PQM - the vocal in mine is more clear than those in You Are Sleeping, those might be quite loud in the mix - but are pretty hard to understand.

i might add to the strung out feeling of the dialogue by messing around with it more though, adding some distorted passages and extra delay in some parts.

I'm not sure what you meant by the percussion sounding flat though, would you be able to expand on that for me.

and finally - you do realise it was supposed to be an electro techno track, not Trance in anyway

Posted by danieldavid on Sep-24-2003 20:41:

On the vocal fitting with the track, its a matter of opinon, yours is obviously gonna supercede mine, but i do think an instrumental would work well with this. As for adding to the vocals i think an LP effect would help that strung out effect and kind of get more dynamic tension in it overall, also an LP would make it a little less clear so you might be able to bring the level up without detracting from the mix.

Percussion wise i feel the hats are flat and not piercing, the kick sounds really compressed and doesnt carry much range, that may have been intended tho.

I Also notice that the chords when the melody first comes in could stand out a bit more in the overall mix, they are being overpowered by the kick.

And yes i realized it wasn't really trance, but i thought that because its on tranceaddict and because some of the elements sound trancy that you might be looking for that sound. As electro-techno i guess it works ive not heard much of the genre so i couldnt say for sure.

thanks for the tips - i'll try them out and let you know how they come along

the hats - ok, you got me there - i'm struggling to find hat samples that i actually like, it's really getting on my nerves now these do sound flat - kinda fuzzy - the kick was supposed to be like that tho
