Korean TA's: Need info on Arirang

I can't stop listening to this old Korean song called Arirang (hence the name of the topic ) and I was wondering if anyone could give me some more info on it. I already know the story behind this song (that Arirang is the name of a hill in which people were executed and it became some sort of anthem for the Korean bravery and stuff), but there are three things I was wondering:

1) What would a Korean think of a foreigner singing it? Is it okay or is it just weird?

2) What do the lyrics say? (In case you don't know the song but you speak Korean, the lyrics are in a gif file in the end of this post)

3) Can I pronounce O as O|? I'm asking it because of my accent

its pointless, and also the lyrics is basically arirang arirang and some stupid shit that has no fuken meaning and if u want me to really translate it, u can go die (i dont feel very sympathetic on stupid 1700 year old songs)

When it comes to respect for older korean people or any korean
i KNOW by EXPERIENCE that they are nothing but useless shit

they are all pathetic and have no independance or self confidence in situations where they have to deal with many ppl alone
they are all fucking pussies and they get their 'friends' to beat ppl up if u dont bow down to them
yes if u didnt realise by now that i fucking abhor koreans there
i have respect for ppl who are not total pussies wihtout ppl always beside them

and lets see the korean government and the whole north korea shit
there is more corruption in korea than 80% of all countries

now the korean adults
fucking obsessed with POINTLESS FUCKING 'education' in korea where NO ONE learns ANY real shit
starting with elementary kids staying up till 12 to learn grade 7 stuff and blahblah and colleges that are so HARD to get in but once u get in u CAN DO NOTHING and graduate with all blabla

i have no respect for my country or ppl

the knowledge of other cultures is not the important thing and neither is understanding the world important i personally think all cultures are pointless and this world is about 1:1 relationship with other ppl from different cultures not about some fucked up hysteria about the arabs VS israelites

I don't know what's the problem you have with your motherland, but you're being a bit unfair.

1) During the last 20 years, Korea managed to develop its industries and became an example for developing countries all over the world. Not to mention that, thanks to the Korean people who helped the government, South Korea was able to survive the "Great Asian crisis of the 90's", which affected most economies in the Asia-Pacific.

2) If there was no self-confidence and no independence, Korea wouldn't have survived Japan's invasion. Let's just remember that the Korean nation has always been threatened by its neighbours, but it still exists.

3) Talking about Korean Education, Hangul has got to be the most efficient writing system ever. I've got no information about how the rest of the educational system works, but Korea wouldn't be able to become a powerful economy if they had problems with their educational system.

4) Corruption exists in most countries of the world. It's not a Korean priviledge.

5) You're aware that kicking North Korea's arse is not a wise solution, right?

Well, thanks for translating the lyrics. My third question is that, if I pronounce O as O|, is it still possible to understand what I mean? I've had problems with this sound in Russian (because "there was" often sounds like "I couldn't care less" when I mispronounce it), so I was wondering if the same happened in Korean.

LOL...wow i havent heard this tune being mentioned in a long ass time..i was just humming the melody to myself the other day.. its funny a Brazillian would have interest in a Korean folk song... but yeah, Trancer85 pretty much explained everything you've asked..actually korean ppl wouldnt find it 'weird' if they heard yu sing the song.. they'll probably wanna find out why or how you know the song in the first place..

the Nim part of the poem is not 'you' its the 'lover'

i thought all koreans learned this in elementary or have enough common sense in translation to know this

Cheers Anyway, here are two versions I've got:

Yoon Do Hyun - Arirang (This is a nu-metal version recorded for the world cup... cheesy, but fun )
Guitar and Flute - Arirang (this is a very beautiful instrumental version, in my opinion)

I was reading the news and there was something about "Singing for the Unification", and I read the article. It was a group of people from North Korea who were singing in South Korea showing their support for the unification and they mentioned Arirang as their "anthem" (not to mention that, during my research for an Institute of Asian Studies in a local university, I had already heard about "Arirang TV"). Since I was already studying Hangul on my own before, I thought that downloading the tune would be a nice opportunity to listen to the language: and this is how I found out about this song
