Build me a DJ system...

Ok, so I came into a bit of money and will be purchasing all new equipment in the next month or so...

I want to purchase..
2 new cd players
1 4 channel mixer (or more channels)
2 turntables
2 cartridges
2 powered monitors (or monitors w/ amp)

total should be around $4000.00

I've been dj'ing for about 4 years now and finally I can get all the equipment I want at one time instead of piecing it together.
Already sold my old cd players so I gotta get the stuff soon...

What do you guys think I should buy?? (I especially need advice on the monitors) Everthing else I think I'm set on, just want others ideas.

Im sure u know what mixer, tt's, and cd player you want... approximately how much money would you have left over for monitors??

Cause you can range from M-Audio BX8's ($480 pair) to JBL Linears ($2000 pair )

Build your own fucking setup!!!

j/k

im no expert on this but im sure ppl will recommend you go with a pair of Technics 1200's for the TTs and the Pioneer CDJ1000's, if you can afford it, for the cdjs

Posted by auujay on Sep-21-2003 02:56:

Well with tons of money I would get

2 Pioneer CDJ1000 or whatever the name is

1 Allen & Heath Xone-62 (http://www.allen-heath.com/xone62.asp)

2 Technics SL-1200 Mk3Ds

2 Shure Whitelable carts (http://www.needlz.com/cartridges/whitelabel.asp)

and get some nice "reference" quality monitors with matched sub (Mackie, M-audio, etc.)
http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/studiophileSPBX8.php & http://www.m-audio.com/products/m-audio/studiophileSP8s.php

or
http://www.mackie.com/products/hr824/index.html & http://www.mackie.com/products/hrs120/index.html

You guys need to learn to do math, honestly

2 Tech = $1000
2 CDJ-1000 mk2 = $2100
1 A&H Xone:62 = $1000
2 Shure Whitelabels = $200

Total = $4300... his limit is $4000
Now he cant afford monitors...

Plus I wouldnt suggest CDJ-1000's, Denons are better, they have mp3 playback and are firmware upgradable, meaning you download updates for the player, put them on a CD, put the CD in the player, your player reads it, and now your player is fully updated with new things.

My opinion is get this

2 Tech MK5G = $1000 (pair)
1 Denon DN-S5000 = $900
1 A&H Xone:62 = $1000
2 Shure Whitelabels = $200

Total comes out to $3100, now you have $900 left to buy monitors with... With whatever money is left over from buying monitors... save it for another CDJ.

My 2 cents,

Vlad M

Like I said earlier, I'm pretty sure what I'm going to get... so I just wanted to see if it fit in with what everyone else would get...

I like this set up...you may want to skimp on the MK5G's and go for cheaper mk2's instead though...why? So you can get Mackie HR824 monitors, which are the industry standard, and run ~600 each.

Sorry I was mistaken by price, MK5G would be $1100. I meant the MK5's which are $500 each, new mk2's are $450 each. He still wouldnt have enough for Mackie's.

If you choose to switch the A&H mixer for a Tascam X-9, you might be able to get those Mackie's. Something about the Tascam: 2 F/X banks, 2 sampler banks, and alot of other stuff. "Its a Pioneer DJM600 on steroids."

Hey M8! Here you go:

2 Tehcnics SL1210 MK5G
2 Pioneer CDJ800
2 Shure WhiteLabel Carts
1 Tascam X-9 Professional 4 channel mixer
1 pair of M-Audio BX 8 Active Studio Monitors with built in cross overs.
total price before shipping costs is $4093.00 minus $100.00 rebate for each CDJ800 unit or minus $100.00 for one unit and free Pioneer HDJ1000 headphones(which are awesome btw) your choice.
Your special fellow TA price is $3807.28 plus shipping and minus rebates or a rebate and headphones. Visit our site at

www.djmart.com

If you don't scratch you don't need to go all out and get cdj1000s, the cdj800 will do just fine and they also have rebates available which cdj1000 doesn't. But if you need to scratch once in a while, cdj800 will handle perfectly as well.

Cheers... pm me if you need other suggestions or instructions on ordering.

Have to agree, skip the Pioneer CDJ's and get Denon's. They're fucking insane.

Posted by ChavezHype on Sep-22-2003 04:38:

man that setup looks juicy...
oh well for me minus the cdj's
i went with 2 Technics 1200 m3ds
Rane Empath Mixer
Shure Whitelabels
Pioneer HDj-1000s
M-Audio BX8 monitors.
And I couldnt be happier... other than this fucking homework!!!! UHHH

2 Tehcnics SL1210 MK5G - $1010.50
pssl.com
2 Pioneer CDJ800 - $1100.00
americanaudiocenter.com
2 Shure WhiteLabel Carts - $167.50
americanaudiocenter.com
1 Tascam X-9 Professional - $875.00
americanaudiocenter.com
1 pair of M-Audio BX 8 Active Studio Monitors - $479.99
pssl.com

Total = $3632.99

I just bought the Technics SL1210 MK5G at pssl with the price match, but i did all the homework to get that price. In fact you will be able to get the price of $3632.99 down even further if you know how to work it

Good Luck!

dude, yeah you got a good deal but other than technics, everything else you got is not warranteed by their respective manufacturers
though it helps to do homework, you also want to make sure you get manufacturers warranty when you are spending so much money!!!

how did am.audiocenter sell you cdjs at $550.00 each or are you already taking the $100.00 rebate per cdj off, because if that's the case, you won't get the rebates.
And besides all that, my offer is still cheaper than what you got, after rebates it would be at $3607.xx vs. 3632.xx.

Cheers...

I didn't buy the cdjs, i just did a quick search as an example and came up with that price from americanaudiocenter.

Like i said, if it was my eqipment, i would have found the cheapest authorized dealer price on the net, have pssl (or whoever) beat the difference and go from there.

BTW, Djmart has pretty decent pricing, I'm just saying if you spend some time and use some good negotiating tactics, these prices will go even lower.

I'm sure you already know what you want for TTs and CDs and a mixer, so for monitors i would reccomend the Alesis Monitor One MK2. I've used them before in a FM-Radio studio setup and they sound beautiful, very reliable reproduction quality. If you want a ton of low-end you might want to add a sub, but they are great monitors, and only cost around $200. Check out http://www.zzounds.com

Also they have an Alesis M1 Biamplified monitor for more money, but pre-amplified with builtin crossovers so you don't have to do any guessing with an external amplifier, generally worth the extra money.

Hope this helps.
