Sterotypes
I know trance has a few sterotypes...like most the time when I tell people I like trance the first question they ask is if I do ecstasy and go to raves. I dunno how many people actually do ecstasy or whatever, but i think its a stupid sterotype.
most people also think the hardcore are full with neonazis

that sucks

I love trance and I've never done ecstacy, been to a rave, or EVEN been to a club with trance...
I guess I'm defying THE stereotype.
Most people in my school think it's soooo easy to make an electronic tune :P
most NE ravers associate trance music with candy kids

They also think trance is largely an Asian music. Kind of true though. But the stereotypical Asian is also into rap, which is gay.

"oh, like that castles in the sky song?"
or
"that isnt real music"
And somehow, a couple beats with vocals going "fear me because i fuck hoes in my stolen cadillac" and stuff gets on the top 40

Yeah, thats another big one I hear.."thats not real music, its just a bunch of sounds" or "anybody can make that type of music"

Yeah most of it is usually along the lines of:
"Ravers taking X wearing big bright pants and glo sticks, your one of those then right?"
And
"It sounds like nintendo music"
darkSIde has spoken...
All that music is is "Boom boom boom" anyway. Apparently.

One of the biggest things I hate what people say about the music, is when they say it sounds repetitive, which is total BS.
Well, to the ear of someone who never listens to electronica, it may seem repetitive.
"It all sounds the same"
I hate it when people say that. If they're in my room I have them listen to some Chicane followed by Ferry Corsten - Punk. That sure sounds the same
Now that I think about I've seen worse. I was at a dance once and the DJ was playing Nelly - Hot In Here. Everyone was bump 'n grinding, blah blah blah. Next he puts on some trance tune I've never heard before, but I must admit it had a great beat and people started going wild. However, a group of slutty girls came over to the DJ and one of them said, "Hey, can you turn this techno crap off? You can't dance to this stuff!"
I don't post here much but this thread made me want to post.
So about the stereotypes, I am plain sick of them.
I am Asian but I know the difference a quality track and a piece of crap 3 minute cheesefest made by "Dj Random Fancy Name."
The thing is, being Asian here in Houston, when people ask what kind of music I listen to, I say electronic dance music. However, electronica here is nothing but a bunch of cheesy breakbeat remixes of Dj Sammy, Lasgo, etc.
Most Asians here listen to Dj Sammy - heaven and say it's great while I show them tracks like Armin Van Buuren - Burned with Desire and they say it's pure crap because, according to them, "it ain't fly." Idiots.

Well they are just plain ignorant. DrummeRaver told me about this kid in our school who claimed EDM was so easy to make, and DrummeRaver snapped back at him (this kid plays guitar in a band) that a guitar is simply a piece of wood with string attached to it
