Um, I gotta question about the TA IRC channel...
I did a quick search to see if I could find this explained but I had no luck...
Why, the fuck - is the channel constantly spammed with join/parts of "female" nicknames?

They're bots, not people. 
ERROR > 485: #tranceaddict Cannot join channel: Must identify to your nickname to join an unmanaged channel.
Why do I get this error when I try to join #tranceaddict?
you need to register your username, and identify it. do a /ns help , /ns register and /ns identify for more info in your irc client

It's called a net split.
When you're on IRC, you're not on one central server - you're on one node of a network of interconnected servers.
When you see a flood of names coming or going, the most likely reason is that either their node or your node lost its link to the rest of the network. Those people are actually still "on" in their "version" of the network.
This used to be the basis for channel takeovers; during a net split, if one of the ops got booted from the channel, someone else would change their nick to that op's name, and on the net join, they would get op status. It's the reason why people put eggdrops and other bots in channels, to prevent things like that from happening.
Edit: I didn't notice the first time I read that all those joins/quits were spaced so far apart in time, I thought it was a flood. If they don't flood all at once, then chances are they're just spambots.
