any photoshop 5/5,5 users plz help

I've been working with it for a long, but I still can't answer this simple question...
how the fcuk can you draw a simple circle or a simple square?
and that curve tool, how complicated can that be... or is it just to me?

on 7 u just right click the shape tool and a list comes to the right and u select what shape u want.

but i dont know if this is the same for 5.

What you need to do is use the marquee tools (see below). Draw your square or circle, then right-click and you can select either 'Fill' or 'Stroke'. Hopefully you'll be able to follow my lame instructions!

I don't think that that was in Photoshop 5 or 5.5, though.

I try that in 7, and it draws a circle or whatever. Once I deselect it, the circle disappears (its a dotted line circle, wtf).

It is creating a circular selection zone, not an actual object. You then can fill your circle with the paint bucket and a color or outside of it if you are wanting to make a layer mask, etc.

On the thread:
If you really want to draw shapes, you probably should use a drawing program like illustrator, not photoshop. You can then send the image to photoshop and add effects and such.
