Does BT DJ?

Someone's trying to say he does.. I wasn't aware that he ever did.

Maybe Final Scratch or something like that.

Looks like he has a few Essential Mixes, but it certainly doesn't seem like a regular thing

This guy is trying to tell me that BT is a better **DJ** than Oakenfold

He does DJ occasionally but from what I've heard he's not particularily good... though I haven't heard him spin personally.

Yeah, he mostly does production :P

BT uses his MAC G4 Powerbook these days to play a "Laptop Symphony" set. He uses a program called Ableton Live 2.0. It's a very cool program and he showed a select few people how he performs using this program @ Remix Hotel Miami during the WMC this year. You have to see it to understand it basically. Essentially, he plays songs that he recorded from vinyl or whatever medium he recieved it on... then as he plays it through the laptop on Live, he can add to the song, such as loops, efx... etc. The possibilites are endless. He can perform 2wice playing the same set, but with the effects and "remixing" that he can do on the fly, they could be 2 totally different sets. He was saying that he played at a poolside party and this one song he played went off. Someone came up to him to ask him what remix it was and he said that unless he was recording the set, he'll never hear it again because it was done on the fly and would almost be impossible to recreate in a sense. BT says he's not only striving to be different with these performances but embracing technology. I admire his thinking and would like to try this myself although I still love vinyl. Here's a pic of him performing @ New Years here in Chicago with Ferry Corsten. Notice he's also using a M-Audio Oxygen 8 to control different things in the Live program:

BT is good, but from a DJ perspective, he is no where close to Oakenfold!

That is a cool concept he uses...that would be something neat to try and get into.

Edit: ive seen bt live once and seen his dj set once. i personally think hes much better live....but that might be because Jan Johnson was singing live vocals

Yea...BT = Great producer, bad DJ. Hell, if you read some of the posts that he does on his website, he ADMITS that he sucks as a DJ.

I can speak, i saw BT and Oakey at the same gig, Oakey suxored compared to bt, BT's set was great that night but that was like a year and a half ago, tiesto owned both their asses and amazingly enough pete tongs set even was good that night

he had his laptop with him right?

i'd say BT is an awsome DJ.
he uses whatever medium he can to move the crowd, and does it damn well.

when it comes to spinning, he blows balls
i heared him live in Miami at the WMC two years back.
he trainwrecked like 3 times during his hour set

but whatever, he's one hell of a producer (altho i'm not that fond of his new album or single somnambulist ).
i'd like to see oakie get up there with a laptop and tear the roof off the way BT does.

When BT and Marco V played here for Spundae's Labor Day Blowout...well, BT blew the roof off the place..._amazing_ set. I've heard a lot of so-so stuff about his laptop symphony, but he impressed me bigtime....

Then Marco V came on and blew the walls over....since the roof was already gone.

What an amazing night.

BT does what he does best - make great music using whatever medium he prefers, i think its fucking awesome the way he does it, since he seems to do a lot better than some, w or w/out vinyl

That program you're talking about sounds real cool. I would love to get my hands on somethin' like that

Does BT DJ...kinda...

Saw him live at the mercury room, I think it was, earlier this year...and well...he doesn't spin, but rather plays everything from a laptop. I was told the name of the software he used, but I forget it right offhand...It's spozed to be the topnotch stuff...but I still think he did a lousy job live.

BT spun inbetween Oakie and Tiesto last year at Ultra 4

he was bad enough to make even joakenfold look good

man thats awesome the way he performs. I wonder how much all that cost w/the progz
