9/26/03 @ Avalon (Jollins, Hipp-E & Halo, Burridge)

Yay, I actually got into Avalon

I arrived at around 9:40 pm, and was one of the first people in line. Then soon after, the line started building up. Most of the people in line near me didn't seem like clubbers. There was a group in front of me that didn't want to wait, and bounced to go to Webster Hall.
Doors opened at around 10:20 pm.
The guestlist people were a little disorganized IMO. And it seemed like every promoter in the city had a list for this night. I had to talk to 4 people before someone found the list I was on.

Solid opening set by Jason Jollins. For a different kind of crowd, it seemed like a different style from the sets he played at Exit, where he was opening for trance DJ's, with a crowd consisting of mostly kids who came ready to dance.

Reviews on NB were generally that Hipp-E & Halo were so-so, and Lee Burridge was great. Seemed like H&H's style was different from what most were used to. The non-clubber crowd who was there early in the night probably didn't know and didn't care.
It seemed like the energy level of the crowd picked up noticeably at around 2:30 am.

Interesting seeing how the crowd changed between the beginning of the night and the end of the night.

I saw a whole bunch of Arc people and Naughtybooth people and people I had seen at Vic's parties. Were any other NYTA's there?
Someone who came later (around 2 am) said he didn't have much of a wait in line.

The bathrooms are really nice. Although not with a full booth like at Twilo, there's a DJ there.
Also nice were the skybox waitresses in short skirts, when they stood near the edge, right above you.

After an unintentional 4-hour nap, I caught the last hour of an afterhours event at SX 137. from noon to a little after 1 pm. Some might have issues with the crowd and DJ, but my time there was fun.

I went last night also. I got there at 3:00am and walked right inside. There was almost no wait at all. Basically, it's the same old Limelight minus all the church stuff. The sound system was loud and crisp but the light show was one the worst I have ever seen. Bars and bathrooms are all in the same place. The crowd was a mix of Exit-heads and Twilo crew. The security was great. I think they are striving for the most friendliest security on the planet. "Hi, how are you today sir.. Please put your arms to the side so I may check you. Thank you sir. You then get a pat on the back or a handshake to send you on your merry way. I wanted to give the guy a big hug

Hipp-E & Halo played progressive jazz. Very fluffy with light drums and trumpets. Lee Burridge came on with some darker stuff. I want to see someone spin trance there.

I wonder what his time slot will be, and how the crowds will react to his stuff.
