BT@Avalon review...

hmmm, where to start....
ok, so we we ended up driving around the city for no less than one hour trying to find legal parking that would cost us less than $40. Thats what all the parking garages were charging. Said fuck it after an hour of looking and just parked at a bustop, which turned out to be ok. We got on a pretty mild line around 12:30, make our way to the front, and 5 guys get told to go home because they weren't with girls. So, me and my friend momentarily freak out, until we spot 5 ugly girls right behind us with no chance of ever finding guys to take them to clubs. So, we used them as 'dates' to get in. Line time was approx 25 minutes, which could have been a lot worse. We get in, and security very very slightly pats me down, and tells me to have a good night. Always nice. paid the $25 cover, and headed on in. Place was packed, but not too uncomfortable. The setup is exactly the same as Estate was. Beautiful. Too nice looking actually. Tons of secret staircases and hallways, I think 5 VIP areas roped off, which was annoying.
I immediately noticed the sound. I thought it was awesome. Crisp and clear. The lighting was awesome. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the crowd at all. It seemed very old to me. I felt like the youngest kid in there by far, and I'm 22. Lot's of touristy types looking to check out a once legendary club, lot's of foreigners. I've never been to Webster hall, but I believe the people who said that the crowd reminded them of WH's. LOT's of hot girls though.
I didn't pay too much attention to the opener, I was just walking around, checking the place out during his set. But I liked BT a lot. I was surprised actually. Kind of live PA-ish performance. He had everyone dancing. I wanted to stay for Astro anfd Glyde, but I was dead sober, tired as hell, and my bed was calling me from across the river. IDK, it was an ok night. I really hope they loosen the fuck up at the door before Ferry comes to town, cause if they don't, none of his real fans are gonna get in which is a shame. Maybe when the hype dies down a little the music heads will takeoever. Until then, it's gonna take some nasty fucking DJs to get me back in there. Not that i didn't have a good time. I definitely did. But I was expecting a lot more.

all i remember is this, he did effects to every song..live remixed everything.

ice (satoshi tomiie) - scandal in new york
dave gahan - dirty sticky floors (jxl remix)
bt - flaming fucking june!!!!!!!!!!
bt - GODSPEED
bt - sonambulist (trancey mix)

im so fucking tired. omg.
more later, signing off this is lunasea.

[edit]ok, he also played Dreaming which was nice and TONS of breaks with amazing, vibrating basslines.

the vibe was nonexistent-- there were tons of tourists and stupid fucking guidos with no shirts on sweating all over the place.. GROSS!!!! i dug the sound system but it was way too hot in there... and that dress code business really fucking sucks!! ok i'm done now [/edit]

Seems like Avalon Saturdays is the new Exit Fridays, with all the kiddies and the crowdedness.
Funny that the guestlist lady told me I was dressed too casually.
This seemed to be TA night, whereas the previous night seemed more like Arc/NB night

Interesting contrast in the afterhours crowd from the previous night. On Friday, the average age of the crowd went down as the night went along, whereas on Saturday, it went up. I saw hardly any familiar faces in the last hours.

Astro & Glyde did an excellent closing set. The place closed at 6:30 am, but there were enough people left at the end that the party could've easily gone longer.

If you can get in by 1 am, you shouldn't have to pay the full $25. GBH and CP have guestlists, and probably many other promoters do as well.

Anyone driving in should look for parking between 7th and 10th Aves, and between 15th and 22nd Sts. There's many possibilities for free spaces there, but read the signs carefully.

huh? I thought it was the total opposite. The crowd was a LOT older. I'm 22, and I felt like the youngest kid in the place.

Smile Tongue

My review....
Got in pretty nicely..except,,fuck the Bitch at the door who tells the guy behind me he's a little too casual??? WTF??
Is this fashion week at Bryant Park or BT live at Avalon????
Crowd was scary...have to be honest...had to recheck my eyes to make sure I wasn't in Exit....
Place was packed!!
Sound system slamming!!!
I think I damaged a vocal cord or two from all the screaming I did....
BT ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!!!!!!
Wow...I am Stunned!!! This man is phenomenal!!! Most of the night I was on the balcony face to face with this brilliance of an entity..let him be an inspiration to all...
Brilliant with the effects machine he was using..talk about wave of the future...all he did was put his hand over it...Incredible!
Flaming June ended it..I think...I'm pretty sold on his new album...
I give MUCH and MAD respect to this man..he is a true mastermind at his art..and very talented..He does everything himself!!!
It's about time he started getting some true,well-deserved recognition!!
I left after BT left..what was really the point of staying..didn't want to chance my night being ruined...
All in all...great night..great sounds..great vibes....
I'll Be Back!!!!!!!

BT definitely rocked it, what time did he finally stop playin? I left just after his second set started (~3am?), one of my friends was really bothered by the volume of the speakers, we were down in the middle of the main floor. I thought it was loud, but would've stayed. how great was Flaming June!?!

I was there w/ my roommate, his gf and another friend of ours. lady at the door told us to "maybe show up with two girls and two guys, or three girls and two guys next time". I was gonna ask her who she blew to get the job, but didn't think it would've been appropriate.

HAHAHHA.... no no, it was TOTALLY appropriate dude, but you didn't do it cuz you wanted to get in the club ;0

damn, you read right through that

then again, she's not even worth the few seconds I spent thinkin' that one up

I second everyone's opinion about the place, Avalon seemed very... Exit. I'd been to Limelight a few years ago when Tiesto played, I think it was early-mid 2001. much different vibe there now, almost reminded me of Sound Factory, gah. just b/c you can bench press 9827345983247 pounds doesn't mean everyone in the club wants to see you walk around shirtless.

music was great tho, BT is the man!

BT was amazing. The whole show kicked ass!! OMG

I couldn't believe it! What BT produces and what he creates in front of an audience are two completely different things. He started the night off with some banging breakbeat/prog tunes and as the night progressed he just kept harder and harder. It was almost impossible to loose interest. He would take songs and add about 4 or 5 extra instruments, which created an amazing effect. Avalon now has the best sound system in the city, and they crank it to maximum volume. You will not hear the person next to you.

BT played for like 2 hours, went off, and the encored with another amazing 30 minutes. The last 30 minutes was even harder that the first 2 hours! Lots of trancy elements with Godspeed, Flaming June and even Third Earth!

One of the best parties I've been to this year

I believe it's 19+, hence the wristbands that were put on people (who are presumably over 21)

Afterhours (though not by Factory standards) is lots of fun!
Different crowd from what's there earlier in the night. Very diverse too. A good amount of space for dancing. Try it some time.

Avalon is 19+ for girls (17+ by my count) And it is run to be a complete fashion show. It is kinda odd that they have to createa false vibe to make people think that it is a "cool, trendy" place to hang out. It is sooo manufactured. It is a shame cause with the awesome lineups they have in place the venue will be filled with rejects who wouldnt know good music if it slapped them on their shirtless (and slimey) backs. Kind of a different vibe being given off compared to Boston. I guess being hot is now a prerequisite to listen to good music. I would suppose that BT is not talented enough to let his music and abilities speak for themselves. And neither is NIck Warren, James Zabiela nor Ferry.
