Live Sets Vs Singles

What do you prefer to download and listen to, Live Set or Singles

Posted by Scorpio Rising on Sep-28-2003 15:28:

Sets all the way

Posted by TOR on Sep-28-2003 16:56:

singles

you can hear all the little details in the track, that's impossible with a liveset..

Singles

Reason : what tor8024 said ^^^ + you can select the tracks yourself.

As long as you're getting Vinyl or CD rips, Singles also have much better quality. Livesets are good sometimes, but othertimes, if it's a Radio Broadcast Rip, you get the radio station announcing itself every other second, which pisses me off. But Livesets do have the advantage of giving you a bit of the feel, crowd noise, and the DJ doing interesting things that change the sound.

It's a give and take thing. But I still prefer Singles.

Livesets, I love when you hear the crowd going nuts in the background

Sets all the way because i really like to listen the audience reactions in a tune!!

I download LS', and from them I take the singles.
Make that what you want.

LIke the sets better, better feeling

live sets ...
i love hearing the crowd going nuts. it makes work bearable, knowing that it will be my turn to go nuts in a short time ...
and if i like a certain part of the set, then i take that track out and save it as a single. i don't keep sets of bad quality ... i delete them. kind of defeats the purpose of having a live set, if it isn't a descent quality

I prefer listening to livesets, gives a bit more variety to the tune than just listening to it straight up... I don't download many tho, coz it takes too long, but they're good stuff

glad i looked around...I was just thinking about sets v. singles.

Definately Live sets...The crowd (if applicable) the movement and length...track after track bleneded together...it is the way this music is meant to be listened to. Singles seem to get you going then ...*thomp*...they end...*thomp* next 16 measure pre-beat starts...gets you going...*thomp*..ends...etc etc.

From the live sets I find the singles I like and get them (preferably on vinyl) and then I can make my own continuous mixes.

Plus it's easier to select the one track for a 2 hour period while zipping around the skies in the pressurized tube i work in.

Definitely sets, that way you don't need to hear a single's first and last minute pickups and drops.

i prefer sets...they can take you on a journey!

Posted by fuct4less on Oct-04-2003 21:25:

def. singles because the smaller details are more vivid than in live sets. also, there havent been that many live sets that ive really liked, many dj's are playing less trance and more house/techno; furthermore, some dj's track selection hasnt been too appealing to me lately.

Dunno Ugh...... this is a tough cookie .....

Dammmit , I cant decide, so I'll have to choose BOTH! Sometimes I like livesets, but often enough I go through single tracks ......

Posted by skip on Oct-13-2003 09:51:

singles all the way! i don't even buy mixed compilations that often but i buy cd singles and non-mixed albums all the time, and i do the same thing when downloading!

Singles....

Better quality...

Posted by starglider on Oct-19-2003 14:31:

Singles. Better quality, and you actually get to hear the whole track. For one, lots of trance tracks actually do have interesting intros or outros, and even if they start with a simple bass drum it's interesting to hear the track unfold as layers are progressively placed on top. Sometimes it's fun to just close your eyes and try to really listen to every sound in a track as it comes in, and this only heightens the sense of progression. Whether it be trance or house, a track that can take you somewhere else and bring you back in a couple handfuls of minutes is special indeed.
