How often do you record?

EDIT:
How often do you record sets per month? Or how often in a month do you play live somewhere? (or per week, if that often.)

I don't play out anywhere yet, but get a lot of good practice recording an average of 5 or 6 sets per month (and about 8 this month).

I'm curious...anyone?

when i am just messing around with my tables by mixing 2 to 3 songs and playing with the EQ/ other effects i will not record.

however, anytime i do set (by set i mean mix 5 or more records) i will record it. if any of you ever played a sport during college/high school you know that after every game you have to watch video tape of yourself and you can really see what you did wrong. i think its the same with djing. i usually listen to every set the day or the day after i record and and trying to see where i messed up my timing or where my beat matching went off. it is really really helpful.

also, if you record a set, listen to it once, put it away for a week, and then listen to it a week later... and if its still good, then youve got yourself a nice set right there.

Yep. My speakers are actually hooked up through my computer....so recording is as simple as opening cool edit and pressing record. And I do that every time I'm playing more than like 40 minutes. You never know when you'll play an amazing set. Plus...it's always good to hear yourself.

Not to mention - if I record all the time, then it's no big deal. Back in the day when I only recorded with the intention of making a cd I would get...i guess nervous and i would always fuck it up.

So I record every time basicaly.

i have a minidisk recorder hooked up to my decks, so i record everything i do on them. then i usually listen to that in the car, walking around campus, etc... i like MDs cuz you can just keep recording over them, gives me a chance to hear my mistakes better and improve. when i get something i like, i transfer it to my computer, and will sometimes burn it to a CD

I would record often if I knew how to set the shit up. I can never seem to get it right.

Not enough.

Always, 'cuz my memory slips all the time. I remember I did a good transition in the beginning of a set, but at the end, I can't remember what or where I did it... I've also got a MD recorder, I recommend it to everyone...

4 times a week

Posted by sektile on Oct-16-2003 02:59:

every single time i mix
that way if i ever lay down a mix i think is tight, i can listen to it afterwards and make a note of it if im planning a cd..

I play at a little bar here every thursday friday and saturday night... i spin from 10pm till 2pm usually about 65% house and 35% hip-hop/pop

lots of work doesnt let me play as much as id like to.. but i record every couple of times when i do a long set. great way to spot mistakes and good transitions. i should start doing it everytime, and play everyday.. ideally

I've completely given up on trying to get people to answer my question. But thanks to those that did

("every time" has no meaning to me...)
