Whats the best DJ mixing software out there

New to Dj'ing
I got PCDJ FX yesterday but today it's running bad and doing bad sounds. Now I'm wondering what I could get to just create my own mixes.

Thanks in advancE!!!

I tried PCDJ once and I felt like you had to do 17 things at once on your keyboard.

Very discouraging

I spin using Traktor 2.1.1, a Numark Turntable and a Denon S5000 CD Player. I've used PCDJ Red and while I like it for lots of reasons I found Traktor far better suited my style. I found PCDJ to be far more suited to Wedding DJ's and less so to club / Trqance DJ's.

Red has some distinct advantages over traktor, First off it support dual soundcards, Traktor supports a single card and to use an external mixer it must have dual outputs (SB Live, Audigy, USB Gigaport etc.) Don't plan on playing live with the Traktor Gigaport Combo. The ASIO Drivers are buggy and don't play well with Traktor, they work great with Red. Red is significantly easier on CPU and resources. Traktor is much more demanding and is not tolerant of slower systems Minimum system I would recommend for Traktor is P4 1.8Ghz with 512MB Ram. Red is generally more stable than Traktor. The record box in PCDJ Red is far more useful and functional than traktor.

OK so why go with Traktor, given its problems? BeatMatching once properly synced it remains in sync if you have reliable beat grids. Beat Grids make matching devastatingly reliable and while it can be automatic much of the best mixing occurs where you can offset one beat from another. Looping is vastly easier in Traktor and I have found through use that I'm vastly better using loops in Traktor than RED. In Traktor I can record control states, so that I can replay mixes and Dub later if I'm not playing live. Moving back and forth through tracks is easier and more intuitive Traktor and the built in mixer is vastly more functional / usable. Pitch-bending is more intuitive in Tracktor and I have found it to be easier to user although it needs a couple of mouse bugs fixed to stop it from locking buttons on. Filters are nice but not often used in my case as I would prefer to see reverb, delay and flange. A HUGE HUGE Benefit of Traktor is that it supports MIDI in so you can use Midi keyboards or MIDI Audio Workstations to control it. I use a cheapo little DM2 controller to practice with and I'm designing / building a prototype controller specifically to drive Traktor.

While much of my post relates to RED I've used FX and without the patches, FX is awful, I believe your problems are fixed by one or more patches. Also understand that FX places high demands on the system I have found a P4 1.4 only just cuts it to play live but then you need a 1.8Ghz system to play traktor live.

Hope this helps, if you need more info or guidance let me know here or by PM/Email.

Phil

virtual turntables hast the pitch controll upsidedown.. which is very misleading.. and can mess u up big time

if you have an external mixer.. pcdj works very well
it lacks a bit of sensitivity but i havent seen anything better

traktor is ok.. but you dont have the option to beatmach manually.. as some tracks dont register the bpms in that program

if you ask me technics pitch faders are upside down! up should be faster, it only makes sense. i learned on VTT, and i was confused when i bought my technics and i was like wtf, they are upside down. takes a little getting used to, but it gets better quick.

now if i jump on VTT though, it seems upside down which is good, because i am used to the real thing.

yeah i know what you mean.. but technics have been around since the 70s lol

vtt makes more sense but still its very confusing switching back and forth between the two

well whenever im bored and wanna compile a new cd to listen to for the week...i just bust out my mixmeister pro. Pretty simple to learn and u can do alot with it.

ex. i took Pvd's guide me god...laced Mr sams sprirtual mix over it...and had a brand new song. Touched up the high hats...added in more background vocals...and changed the ending of the tune. And no i dont pass these cd's i make around and call it my own work...i make em just for me.

If u wanna hear wat i did as an example for wat u can do with this prog...let me know...id more than happy to give u a sample.

Traktor 2.11, PCDJ Red 5.3, BPM Studio 4.7 and Vtt are tops..
Traktor 2 being the newest and most advanced.. everyone seem to say PCDJ FX is buggy..

definitely Traktor DJ Studio 2

I've been using PC dj red for a while now but it seems as though it does not register the BPM's of tracks. Only 2 tracks have their BPM as of now. Any way to do this???
