I Hate Mc's!!!
They're idiots, they ruin the music for everyone, I don't understand how any idiot could enjoy the music more while some fuckhead is screaming out pointless shit. Recently I got a Drum and Bass compilation where the stupid MC ruins every song.
Thank god MCing doesnt often happen in Trance but in other genres it runs amok. How can MCing be a job anyways its even worse than freestyle rapping, and what in Christ's name is it's place in electronic music I don't know. Death to all MC's, I came to listen to the music spun by the DJ not you shitheads!!!
hey man im an mc and i think its a respectible position
i disagree - i've seen some MC's who really get the crowd going and actually do a really good job at it. As long as they sound good and not talk too much and over every song then I really dont mind it..
You know when you're browsing the internet in search for something and have to deal with popups you don't wanna see. I don't wanna hear people spitting out pointless shit that in most cases doesn't even rhyme while im trying to listen to music.
Oh and BTW (hence the edit) if the DJ can't get the crowd going by himself then he has got some problems and maybe should consider another proffession.

I seriously think you have no idea. No offence intended.
umm, i dont think the DJ really gets a say in it a lot of the time.
MCs are ok, i have no problem if they do it well.

Agree with 3jaz. Go have a listen to MC Conrad whilst Bukems playing, and you'll have a different opinion. Live is even better. His rymes and singing are so smooth you have to check that its an MC and not part of the track.
You must see any good MC along side a good DJ, that compliment each other, in action.
Yep there are a fucken heap of shit MCs around. But there's even more shitty trance DJs out there

WHEN I SAY TWO, YOU SAY TRIBES!!
nuff said.
I've never been successfully "gee'd up" by an mc. I always just groan when I see one heading to the floor. Introductions are fine but I hate mc's that think they're guidance counselors to a bunch of 10 year olds and telling me life is all ok and to leave all that negative shit outside. Like I was planning to come and listen to uplifting trance to get down and depressed on the world!
Also, why can't they hold the mic like ordainary people.
EDIT: I saw this awesome black dj on some crumby american show the other night. He kept calling everyone his bruvva and useing the word wack. Was hilarious.
A good MC, in the right genre, can be superb. I have to agree that there are HEAPS of crap DJs out there, but some MCs really, really do rock.
On thing that tells you that the MC is GOOD is that as they MC, it sounds like it should be in the music.
MCs are wicked in dnb etc.. trance n all that, naaaaaaahhhhh
A good MC knows when to speak up, n when to let the music play. EG: MC CONRAD
There's a time and the place for MCs. If anyone saw Goldie vs MC Rage @ TT2002 they'll know what I mean. The music is way too hard and fast (like 160-180 bpm from memory) to dance to or anything, but there is a fair bit of talent in doing what they're doing. MC Rage also came back on during Danny Howell's set which I thought was pretty cool.
Also check out DJ Marky's EM (hardish jungle/dnb music) from last May. It was recorded live and I'm not sure who the MC is, but he gives the music so much energy that it wouldn't normally have just by shouting the right things at the right time. So yeah, MCs are good if they're used properly, but having said that....

| Originally posted by Renegade There's one set in particular that is an absolute classic for this: Sander Kleinenberg Live @ Impulz 01/04/2001. He plays Highland - No Way Out, the vocals have just started, in the middle of a really beautiful part of a beautiful track, when this Dutch (I presume she's Dutch) woman, with an annoying, gruff voice shouts out for no reason: "Sander KlenenBEEEEEERRRRRRGGGGG!" Which, yes is quite annoying, yet bareable I guess. But she just does not fucking shut up. And I mean it's almost comical really, I fail to see how anyone could be anything other than pissed off by it. Here's how it goes: Middle of beatiful vocals: "Sander KlenenBEEEEEERRRRRRGGGGG!" About 30-40 seconds later: "Sander Kleinenberg......" Then, slightly louder: "Sander Kleinenbeeerrrrerg! Beginning of build-up/lull (shouted): "Listen to the sounds! The sounds of Sander KleinenBEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRERRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG! (the "berg" lasts for about 10 seconds, with the high volume maintained throughout) Still in the build-up/lull (shouted): "SANDER KLEINENBEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!" (the "berg", while as loud - i.e. shouted - as the previous one this time lasts for about 15-20 seconds) The lull finished during the last cry of "Sander Kleinenberg" and we are now on a beatiful climactic part of the track where the vocals and the music are hand in hand: "SANDER KLEINENBEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGG!" (a shorter one this time, maybe 7-8 seconds) Then: "Listen to the sounds, listen the sounds, I said listen to the sounds, I said listen to the sounds of Sander KleinenBBEEEEEEEERRRRRGGGGG!" Then: "Listen to the sounds of DJ Sander Kleinenberg. I said listen to the sounds, sounds, sounds, sounds, sounds. (*brief pause.*) Listen to the sound." Then (sang): "Listen to the soouuuunds: the soooouuunnnddss of Kleinenbeeeerrrgg! Yeaya, heya, yeaya.....!" Then: (after allowing people to listen to the music for fully ten seconds) "I said listen to the sound, sound, sound. Sound, sound, sound. This is DJ Sander Kleinenbeeeerrrrrrggg!" Then: Come on! Wave your hands in the sky! Let me see that you like this DJ!" Then: Come on! Take to the groove and listen to the sound, sound, sound...... of DJ Sander KleinenBEEEERRRRRGGGGG!" So, the long and short of it is, that that goes on for about 4 minutes - throughout an entire track basically. Even if all that dialogue was spread over a 6 hours set you'd be pretty pissed off, but incessant for nearly 5 minutes? A bit over the top methinks. I suggest that you download this set - it only lasts for an hour - just to see what I mean. It's hard to express the shitheadedness of the MC in plain ASCII text. |
rofl @ renegade
those Impulz MCs are always really shitty, though most of the Dutch MCs are pretty ordinary...
Agree with what others said, MCs aren't bad by definition, but they have a time and place (and genre of music). Trance & prog certainly isn't that time or place.
Jamacian DnB/Jungle MCs own. That is all.
