Space34 Miami Closing?
Got this off another board...very disappointing, is it true?
| quote: |
| Space34 To Close October 11th Final confirmation of the closure of Space34. Sent by Space owner Louis NO MORE SPACE AVAILABLE "SPACE34 SHUTS ITS DOORS" Lately, only negative press regarding Space34 has been gracing the pages of our home town newspapers. Space34 pioneered the revitalization of Downtown Miami, tripled the area's real estate value, brought over 5 million dollars in tax revenue and chased away the homeless and crack dealers from what was once a completely dilapidated area. We won an award for "Best Night Club" and presented more world class DJs than any club in the US and not a word was printed. We sell more liquor than any other club in South Florida but all they can write about is water and ecstasy. Over 3000 music loving, liquor drinking customers walk through the doors of Space34 every weekend but the media chooses only to focus on a hand full of partiers that choose drugs as their recreational vehicle. Could this really be the only place in town where drugs are used? Who will be the target of their next "investigation"? What local business will they help shut down next? I guess it is true, "nothing sells like negative press." We refuse to be the topic of any more negative publicity and continue doing business in such a hostile environment. We would rather shut down our doors than do business where we are not welcomed. The media will have to find a new scapegoat. We are tired of being singled out and made an example of simply because we are the largest and most popular club in the Nation. We will no longer be the scapegoat for the drug problems plaguing our City, State and society at large. No longer will Space34 be the target of misdirected and unwanted blame for the drug problems of our community. In schools, at work, on the streets and even in government offices, illegal drug use is rampant and abundant. It affects every part of our society. The notion that Space34 and this nation's night clubs are the source of drug abuse in our society is a blanket statement that is nothing short of ludicrous. Listening to music and dancing is not a crime. Our government is using the unconstitutional Amber Bill / Rave Act / Crack House Law to try and shut down night clubs, concerts and public gatherings. These establishments should not be blamed for the inefficiency of our nation to control the importation, distribution, sales and use of illegal drugs. Shutting down night clubs will not stop people from doing drugs. Space34 will be closing its doors as of Saturday October 11 2003. Join us this week for our pre closing and the MURK CD Release Party. There will be an official "Closing Party" next week starring Subliminal Records Erick Morillo. This will be the first time ever that Erick performs at Space34 and we are very excited and pleased to have him. He will be doing both Main Room and Terrace sets. Joining Erick will be residents Oscar G, Roland, Markus Schulz, Tony Tone, Radamas. The owner, management and staff of Space34 would like to thank everyone who supported and believed in us. A club is not a club without clubbers and a dance floor is just an empty floor without dancers. We would have never made it without you. Keep on dancing. |
Yes.
Damn I never got to even go once.
just goes to show what narrowminded-anti-drug-nazi's can do...
i just don't understand...but yet things have to end sometimes...i guess space 34 will go in the books as one of the best nightclubs that no longer exist....TWILO, TUNNEL, LIMELIGHT...AND NOW SPACE 34
rip had a great time there whenever i visited miami
finnally turning 21 i was planning to visit miami and obviously space34 in the near distant future
what a shame , i heard it was a great club .
fucking media/government

Things like this occur because the positive aspect of clubbing in the US is the only thing that still remains underground.
yes its true. Apparently someone else (Pacha) has already bought it and promises to reopen ASAP. See the florida forum for more info.
d00d space 34 is in the HOOD!!!!! But I thought they were doing pretty damn good
lets wait what arturo is gonna say...im planning to go to miami in summer or around easter time and iim so excited to go to space34 cause ive heared its such a great club...i hope the story is just a rumour or smth.

that's really to bad. But unfortunatly its just another one of those things that some unfortunate americans have to live with because of a negative media stereotype that is so common in the US. I must admit the US has real nice places to visit but im sure glad i don't live there. So many narominded lunatic control things there. Nothing wrong defending a way of life, but when its starts to affect your own personal liberties its too bad. One more lost for the music lovers in Miami, and one awsome club i'll never get to visit. Its too bad
With drug laws, you can either tighten them or loosen them. Many countries have loosened the drugs laws like Canada with marijuana poss. but I have always viewed the states as cracking down heavily with harsh penalties on all users. I think this is from that, the TUNNEL had massive problems because the owner was tied to a lot of illegal activity. This does not help but you americans can always come visit montreal and toronto to see big names, i know it is more expensive but the cdn dollar is a hellhole and has been for years and we are not as tight on drugs here as in the states. Simple poss. might get you in trouble but the courts are so fucking backlogged with real cases, they normally drop the charges or plead (which in cdn law is weak). I think Americans need to ask their politicians what they stand for before voting because you do control their destiny. BTW, I'm totally against drugs but it seems the media in Europe and North America is blaming clubs for the drug problem but the drug problem was there before nightclubs and it is because they are not effectively dealing with the problem of drugs. It never seems to end anywhere because people view raves and clubs as drug havens but most people don't do drugs, they go to meet ppl and see great live acts and people still have that misconception about drugs.
The kinda drug consumption in clubs is not even the tip of the iceberg compared to country wide problems most face...
Its all too easy to blame clubs so these politicians, police, press etc can be seen to be doing something... bout time they looked at the real problems.
Eventhough I've never been there, it's such a shame they close it down because of such bullshit reasons. Media who have such an influence and more or less have the ability to close things down this way should be teached a lesson.
I'm kinda lucky living in The Netherlands (eventhough I never use drugs) where these things don't happen like it happens in the US. It's not like everything in The Netherlands is allowed, but luckily we have much more freedom regarding drugs.
IMO the whole drug policy in the US is such an ignorant policy and only costs a lot of money, but doesn't stop people from using drugs.
That's really a pity. I heard nice things about Space34 and even though I haven't been to Miami in years, hope springs eternal that I'd get to go there someday...but not any more!
It's so true that the media only focuses on the drug users who plague clubs, and bullshit people into believing that nightclubs are the source of drug use in America. That really IS a stupid, neo-nazi attitude. damn the states, i'm glad i live in canada!
only the best clubs seem to close. wft?
What terrible news this is. Sometimes this country truly dissapoints me. Never been but I was planning on going in March, and I hear its one of the best clubs to go to.
Space34 RIP
a few pics i took from my many visits....
will never forget Tiestos gig last year
...what a shame!
SPACE34 RIP!

Does anyone know where I might purchase Space34 merchandise before they close for good??
Indeed a shame they have to close: I'd hoped on visiting it this coming March if Ultra6 is hosted in Miami.
Space 34
Dam. Easily one of the best night club in the US. i had lots of good memmories there. Space 34 will not be forgotten. !!
FUCK THE WAR ON DRUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if people want to get high it is there choice, every country that accepts drugs are a part of culture has not had as big of a drug "problem" as the US
This is such a horrible injustice - I can't beleive they would blame 'druge usage', and use it as a 'blanket' or scapegoat to destroy the reputation of a club, that only catered to music fans - it was purely for music!!! What the hell is this world coming too??!?! I am beyond furious!
I'm gonna try my best to go to Space34 this week (I'm over 21) and I KNOW it's gonna be expensive...
I wish the best for this company! R.I.P.
-Mental
man never been there but from those pics it looks like it was a hella nice club... another club i'll never attend
i dont get it
is he shutting it down because of bad press
or is it because he has been forced to because of drug related problems...because i didnt read explicitly that the club was shuttingbecause of the latter most of these atatements?
whats teh deal?
Simply freaking great, before I had the opportunity to visit it. Oh well, c'est la vie. Something else will pop-up in its wake, who knows we shall see.
