i ve listened to lotsa mixes made by people and ive nottices that many of them stil sound too digital as opposed to worlds famous producers is it the quality of samples is it something else that makes music sound more real?
I don't believe it's the "quality samples" that makes a song sound less digital.
It is to do with how you arrange the percussion, how the synths sounds, the structure of the melody, etc...
Also, I believe that the ONLY thing that you should use samples are for percussion and drums. I say this because most fx can be made by using synths, filters, whitenoise, etc... and well synths, if you don't know how to make your own synths w/out using presets or samples, then you really shouldn't be a world class producer...
The quality of the samples has nothing to do with how good your track is going to sound... it's how you put them together that counts...
With that said, trance isn't supposed to sound "real" anyways... However if you are trying to achieve a "real" sound then the best way is by use of some reverb at the right places and filters and eq's.. although not too much...
If you want to make more "real" sounding music, you shouldn't really be producing trance... maybe ambient or house or something...

Since when is trance not supposed to sound "digital"?
Since analog synths came out!
(teehee)
this sound of "realness" is all due to the mastering of the final track. Big-time, high-pay artists have the connections and cash to pay for QUALITY mastering adn engineering prior to a final master mix of their track. sometimes a simple change of the mx makes it sound better or maybe a quick mid-to-high eq ranp will do it. the samples have something small to do with it, nothing too big, unless they're shitty quality recorded in the first place.
Most trance/techno-sounds originate from or are made with analog equipment/instruments, so i guess it depends on the quality of samples/synths and engeneering, and what you mean by "sound too digital".
Cheers
While mastering does play a huge part, so do the effects used during the mixdown phase, like reverb, delay, and especially compression. Of course, if you're starting with shitty sounds, all the mastering and the best fx in the world aren't going to make your track sound good.
