whats this error i keep getting in XP , anyone please help.

I have a great knowledge of computers but this error has baffled me, it appears that everytime i right click on a directory or a file
the folder instantly freezes and gives the Non Responding error, usually i can ctrl-alt-del and kill the window but it is such a pain plus it
does it again and again, but sometimes it seems to work fine, im running AMD 2ghz / 512DDR / XP Pro / so the pc aint old. Ive scanned
for Worms, Trojans , Viruses, Spyware the whole worx, i have a strong firewall up, So there aint no errors there, I also have the 64mb Geforce
Nvidia VGA/3d Card which i doubt would cause such a problem. Anyone any ideas ?

could be a harddrive issue, goto the manufractureres website for your drive, they all have a utility you download that creates a 3.5" bootable disk image that copies onto a floppy that you boot from with some diagnostic software on, try that and see if it comes up with anything

From what I know, any program installed is fair game to any user onto that given workstation. Program installations are not user specific.

I could be wrong.

this could be just a guess, but your IE might be borked. that happened to me when i repaired win2k, ie6 got mixed with ie5 and that was quite a hybrid...

nope. they are not, i.e. you are wrong. You can easily set the permissions on a folder -even a program- so that only a subset of users can use (execute) it.
If you install a program and you just don't want it to SHOW up in other users' start-menus, then you need to move the entry from the 'all users' part in the "documents and settings" folders to the 'YOUR_USER_NAME' entry.

it is a little hard to explain, but use the EXPORER and take a look at the "documents and settings" directory and you will soon figure out where the start menu entries are coming from.
