New Xone 62 for $650 USD with warranty and free shipping?

Ok, I have an urgent question. Has anyone heard of Altex electronics? They sent me an email offering me a brand new Xone 62 with a 3 year warranty and free shipping for 500EURO plus 50EURO for a Western Union transfer fee to Italy (approx. $650 total). I confirmed the order then they sent me a proof of delivery with a UPS tracking #. I went to UPS.com and entered the tracking # and it seemed legit- it had my name and address. Now all I have to do is make a wire transfer for 550EURO to complete the transaction. Here's the funny thing, I visited the website http://www.altexitaly.o-f.com/ and they had lots of tvs and other electronics for pretty cheap but nothing remotely related to dj equipment. I'm worried about fraud because this seems too good to be true but at the same time, it seems legit. Please help me out.

hmmm this does sound dodgy... that is so cheap! Best price I have seen for a xone62, and this is a very good one, is about USD$925. I live in Texas and there is a chain of computer warehouse type stores that retail computer parts, networking components etc etc... their name is Altex Electronics... and they certainly have nothing to do with Italy. I can't help but wonder if these people in Italy are using someone else's name to sound slightly more legit? Of course, this is speculation, they could be perfectly legit... if so, I'll take 50 !! That wire transfer deal is the thing that sounds really dodgy though... why can't you just pay by credit card! Hmm.. be careful.

Dude, you should have made a deal with them:

You should have told them you would send 60% as the first transaction and the other 40% upon arrival.

When it seems to good to be true, especially from a supposed retailer asking for a western union money transfer, it most likely is..

A legit business will have different pay options credit card, phone orders, etc.
I almost got slammed when i was first buying my technics 1200s from a person in canada requesting western union money transfer. My luck that western union contacted me to verify that I wanted to do the transfer, because the person was a bit suspecious, as he had requested several transfers for the same amount, and I cancelled the transfer.

I was researching a bit further and most frauds occur through money transfers. I would look into it a bit more before making the decision.

If i decided to order it and it never came but it showed up on my credit card statement, I could always dispute the charge. The only other thing I'm worried about is that it could appear to be a xone 62 from the outside but something else on the inside. That's not an unreasonable concern is it?

Im advising bro, just avoid the headache and purchase from reputable dealer rep. Especially for dishing out big money like that on a mixer, it will be worth getting it from an authorized dealer.

Posted by DJ LIQUID on Oct-10-2003 19:28:

be careful...that is dirt cheap for that mixer

Posted by pumavisor808 on Oct-10-2003 20:05:

call PSSl and see if they'll match that price... If not then it probably is too good to be true... Pro Sound and/or Guitar Center will match any price from andy reputable dealer... So if they say no way then I probably wouldn't trust it.

VERY (too) cheap products:

the sony vaio GRX416SP is on sale in germany for 4400 Euro (!) and your site has it for 599 Euro

too good to be true, I'd say.

I'll take stolen equipment any day as long as it's cheaper! :

I wouldn't go through Western Union, my friend got screwed out of $1000 on Ebay, dumbass used Western Union. If they use that, it's almost always fraud...

Posted by montie on Oct-11-2003 00:08:

don't do it man. its quite a risk just to save yourself 300 bones. being a victim of fraud is no fun. you feel really shitty and your out of your cash.
its prolly stolen equipment or a used or broken one. or they are just flat out scamming you. to get a UPS tracking number all they have to do is give UPS a box to ship and give a fake sending address.

you should also look up consumer reports on the company. any retailer that uses western union is incredibly sketchy. plus they say they are from italy and have the texas state in their logo??

stay away man.

NO... WAY...

do not buy anything from this place. look at the prices for the other products... waaaaaaaaay too cheap. also there are so many things wrong with this seller.

1) like everyone says they use western union... that has ripoff written all over it.

2) stated above, they are from italy but they have a picture of texas on their logo? wtf?

3) look at the website name... http://www.altexitaly.o-f.com. notice that it is a subdomain of a free hosting company... o-f.com. what kind of online electronics site cannot afford their own domain? so sketchy.

4) look at their website... that design is so shitty. not professional at all. looks like it was put togeather in 5 minutes.

They also use Yahoo for their e-mail. I would think a legit business would have something a little more professional than THAT.

Trust me on this... its a scam.
I had the same deal when I was first purchasing my mixer... first it was "supposedly" a dutch auction from a legit ebay jewellery and electronics store for a vestax pmc-37pro mixer... at the time the best retail was like 800 they were "selling" it to me for approx 550 USD. Asked for either a cheque or wire transfer to f**king singapore from a store thats supposedly british. Anyways I'm abou to do it anyway (n00b at the time) but the day i was about to... ebay emails me tells me the user has been kicked off and the ebay account for the store was compromied/hacked. Jerkoffs...
Another time I got the exact same scam as you... this time for a DJM 600, gave me a tracking # and asked me to wire transfer them money through western union... seller said they needed money really badly and was going to sell it for $500 bucks USD PLUS they'd pay the wire transfer charge. They wanted the money really quick...why? Cause the very next day ebay emails me and tells me about this scamming piece of garbage telling me not to send money and if I have report to like credit authorities and what-not...
This is ebay tru,
however ive received emails from supposed store reps who said theyd seel me sh*t for deals too good to be true from places like lingerie stores!!! wtf!! don't trust them unless they give you a picture of the box and UPS gives the details of the package shipment and/or the store at least has been verified - this one has not.
No way in hell theyd ship to you for free overseas... it would cost over 100 bucks just to do that plus theyre selling you that mixer 200 bucks already cheaper than the closest best price.
It's a scam I say... stay away... please scammers must be stopped...

Posted by ChavezHype on Oct-12-2003 05:30:

btw i only nearly dodged these scams
so just be careful

Thanks for everyone's reply. I think I will take your advice. I was VERY sceptical and I see I'm not alone. I'll go with planetdj.com or djmart.com.

If you think that's bad, you should see the emails this guy is sending me! ALL CAPS AND LOTS OF THESE->!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The threats have already begun. It's actually quite laughable. It's like he's taking it a little too personally. I'm really getting a kick out of this.
