Arrow Best budget active monitors?!!! Your opinions please..

Hi,

I was wondering if everybody could give me there opinion on which are the best budget active monitors (that have amplifying build in)?! Please also explain why you like them. Actually, what's the minimum amount of money you have to spend to get good active speakers as I have no idea at all what the price ranges are for monitors. Also, is it a good idea to go for active ones that have amplifying already build in (which seems like the most simple solution) or not?

Also, are there any good desktop speakers that you could use as monitors or isn't that a good idea?

Thanks in advance for all good feedback!

active monitors

Check Fostex PM1. Great sound for this price. No Behringer.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you're looking into US$300-500, then Behringers Truths are a good deal. But if you can spend US$700-900 look into Event 20/20bas.
Just one thing:
With cheaper monitors it's harder to distinguish different frequencies which translates into not being sure how your mixes will sound on other audio systems.
If you want top quality and want to be sure that your mixes will sound the same everywhere, take a look at Mackies HR824 or Dynaudios BM6A's.
Good luck

I heard some bad stuff about Behringer monitors, but that's just my experience. The thing you should do is, go to a professionel shop, pick out the monitors that are in your price range and listen to them all. Then decide on which you like the sound of most and buy that one.
The one thing I have noticed about monitors is that everyone has its own personal taste. Don't go reading reviews and buy the ones other people like most. Listen to them and decide for yourself.

I have heard good things about the Tannoy Reveal, which are about 300 a piece. Just remember that the more expensive ones will provide better sound, but you may be able to do much better mixing on cheaper ones.
