Individ (a.k.a Boy trance) - Fear Of Machines / The Fern / Shattered

Yeah, changed my production name. Been gone for a while, have worked on so many tunes, but I'm constantly jumping from project to project and only managed to FINISH one...

Individ - Fear Of Machines.

Now im not saying it's my best, and I probably have an idea of what suggestions I'll be getting also!

Please check out the updated versions of my older tunes: 'Shattered' & 'The Fern' also if you have time. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...

Incidentally I have TrancEaddicts Unite 1 on right now and Shattered is playing...

Long time no see, what have you been up to?

Posted by Icone on Oct-15-2003 07:39:

Gonna check them out mate, good to hear from you again. I know what you mean though, I also have a bunch of tracks and melodies I didn't do anything with...

You know I like 'Shattered' from your Boy Trance days, I even remixed it back then hehe

I'll come back when I got them.

Yeah I gave Shattered a lil face lift, as well as with The Fern.. changed the production name as you can see... I have TOO many unfinished potentially good tracks right now, but I'm almost completely fed up with FL Studio... I can't stand FL anymore! I'm gonna get my hands on Reason 2.5 and learn all that I can and start getting a lil more serious about my productions...

How have things been with you guys? Productions goin well?? Anything I've missed you'd like to show off to me?

Fear of Machines great work here

i love the big orchestral crash every 16th bar of the melody, i like the breakdown at 4:30ish, the synth combo is definitely unique. i like it very much, but i got less entertained by it at 5:45 and the subsequent riffs. maybe at 6:23 change the melody to going down for a 8 bars (and anywhere else appropriate). i like everthying in 6:50 breakdown but the snare/clap maybe not what i like most.

love the creepy stringys at 7:40. double bassline is good but doesnt fit with bass drum.

Wow, thanx for the constructive criticism! I know what you mean with the repetition, it definetly needs something more, like alil change up or sumthing... I'll work on that...

thanx alot man!

The problem is I'm having loads of trouble with my FL software... I jumped from 3.5 or sumthing, to FL Studio 4.1, and some of my tracks will not open, and there are plenty of other difficulties I just sort out if I can in order to do any additional work on my older stuff.

This is why I'm fed up with FL, I'm gonna be taught Reason 2.5 soon and hopefully improve in my producitons...

i got hooked on ReBirth 1.0 and have stuck with Steinberg/Propellerheads software since. Reason 2.5 is unbelievably easy and extremely versatile, but dont forgot youre going to have no VSTs (or any third parties) and you'll need to master elsewhere.

I could never get into ReBirth myself, dunno why, I guess I was raised on a differnt line of software and FL became 'norm' to me. It's gonna suck not being able to use VSTs though, cause there are sooooo many with so many differnt sounds and capabilities, can Reason 2.5 really compare with versatility and sounds??
And just curious, what did you mean by 'you'll need to master elsewhere'?

I like the chords that you chose to use in the 'Fear of Machines' track so far. Has this cool feel to it. I like the soft synths, along with the pads/SFX. It has a totally different feel to it.

I notice your a fan of 'Reverb' though. Sorta gives it an acoustic, soft, mellow, dreamy feel. At the break down, it's sorta hard to hear all the great instruments cuz of all that verb, but you can leave that if you want.

The song feels like a dream! I can say that for a fact. Interesting melody, which was totally unexpected!

Keep it up young Boy Wonder...err Trance. TO THE BAT CAVE!!!

by "master elsewhere" i meant that Reason 2.5 cant really be used to master audio very well. it has parametric EQs that you could chain and 2.5 added a 512 band EQ (which is great to use a multiband compressor), but its too much hassle to utilize these features and then get one final product and work with normalizing, and eqing etc because you can no longer do it per instrument.

i just got into Cubase which gives you the option of using each Reason instrument as a channel as well as VSTs (and i think even FL with FL putting in rewire, but i may have that backwards) which can then be mastered standard style in cubase.

though i have actually done this yet, i'm still using Cubase for VSTs, Reason for most sounds (recycle is a necessity) and then mastering in CEP.

Thanx alot Tranzmental!
I appreciate your comments, although I slightly know what you mean with the reverb, I always try n use different reverb settings (and differnt TYPES) for differnt instruments, giving it more of a dynamic sound... hope I didnt overdo it though. I DO love the verb!

And nick, thanx for the info man... although I heard that it IS possible to master somewhat within Reason... and then I can use T-Racks to master the final product (like I generally do)... I don't wanna stop using vst's though, maybe I will combine Cubase with Reason... I may have future questions for you when I set my shit up!
