MP3 Hardrive player or MP3 CD player

Ive come at a crossroad guys.. im thinking of getting either a mp3 player hardrive.. or an mp3 cd player.

The mp3 player im looking at getting is the LYRA 40 gig Hard drive player

and mp3 cd player.. there are loads to choose from.. preferably one with lithium batteries that recharge

What are the pro and cons of each? what would you guys choose?

Im leaning towards the mp3 hardrive player since it stores 40 gigs.. and its less hastle switching cds and scratching them

mp3 cd players are good too but i dont like hte hastle of carying around cds and risking them getting scratched

are tehre any problems you guys know with mp3 player hardrives? are they slow? do fail alot?

please post your views.. any information will help thanks!

cost 500 canadian MP3 player 287 US
cost 200 canadia MP3 cd player W recharge battery

look up iRiver. I have the the iMP-350, an awesome MP3 CD player (with an fm radio) but they have released two more since then...the 400 and 550

hardware is the best, esp if you have a lot of mp3s and if you think it's time wasting to burn cds and if you have the money....

Posted by mets4012 on Oct-14-2003 13:40:

i have the iriver imp350 also but thinking about getting the 10gb ipod because the mp3 cd player only holds 700mb which is not enough for me.

i had this same problem. but the mp3 harddrive has many advantages to the cd player, even though it is considerably more money

1. you dont have to carry cds around
2. it fits in your pocket (cd player fits too, but its much bigger)
3. you can put mp3s on really quick and dont have to purchase media (so if you are in a rush, plug that shit in and transfer some tracks)
4. you dont have to worry about cleaning the laser because there isnt one on the mp3 player.

i got an ipod (5gb) a while back and i love it. i am so glad i spent extra and got this one instead of an mp3 cd player. btw, 40gb might be a bit much. I find this 5gb more than enough to store what i want to hear. 40gb is rather ridiculous, hehe, unless you carry other shit on there that you need.

Definately give the iriver products a look... I'm thinking of picking up an iFP-390 for use at work - it's super small and has an FM tuner. And maybe one of the Slim-X MP3 CD players w/ tuner to take on my motorcycle.

40 gigs does sound like a bit much.. and im not sure if the lyra player can load other files besides music files as well (text files, documents) like the ipod does.. everybody is crazy about the ipod.. is it true that it is the best mp3 cd player?

so i guess this is something to look into.

I would go for the mp3 harddrive. I had the same problem as you a few months ago. I bought the Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen and I love it. It's small, it's easy to use and it has lots of storage (20 gig). And it's fast if you us firewire or USB 2.0, 60 minutes of music transfers in about 10 seconds on your player. For more info: http://www.nomadworld.com/products/jukebox_zen/

The only disadvantage is that it is a bit expensive, but when you buy it, you will forget about this money fast. It's money well spend

its hardware, not cd and yes it is probably the best out, i see no competition for it tbh except for price

Posted by Nrg2Nfinit on Oct-14-2003 17:42:

yes i meant hardrive player lol

but it seems to me that the lyra 40 gig player is cheaper than the ipod 15 gig... at my local future shop.. so i cnat help but think.. why not just go for hte more memory?

I love my 30gb ipod, it rocks your socks!!!

If you think the new 3rd generation ipods are expensive you can always get the 2nd generation ipods. They went down in price when the new ones came out.

I have to cast my vote for the HD MP3 player. I owned the Creative Zen when I had a PC, and now have a third-generation iPod for my Mac. I'll swear by both. It's so amazing to realize you have access to your entire music collection, no matter where you are. I think they're definately worth the steep prices.

That things got more gigs than my computer but get that HD mp3

I have the Zen for three months now. It has no memory problems and if the build-in battery is fully charge, it has a play-time for 9 a 10 hours.

Only the headphone sucks big time. I use sony ear-plugs, much beter sound then the one you get with the player.

Rasta

damn....i'm gonna have to trade my cd mp3 player in for a HD one. the one magik has looks sweet. but, i'd go for 60 GB. i have an older cd mp3 player. its ok. battery life is like 7/10. anti-skip is like 6/10. my remote broke two weeks after i had it. but, some ones look nice now if you want a cd mp3 player. still, i'm gonna get the one magik has.

p.s. what are good headphones?

oh, and i prefer the ones that go in your ear. but opinions on both are welcome.

usually it depends on the player.. if it doesnt go loud with regular head phones hten ear buds are hte best bid.. other than taht if it goes really loud (distorts with regular earphones) use the sony ones.. they are big and clumsy but they have really good sound from them
