What do you guys use for making music?

i was just curious as to what program you guys use to make the music you do. atm im using fruityloops but i fear that i need to do some upgrading to reach the true potential of my abilities. i've heard the pros use protools, is that the same for this site? and if so maybe some less expensive alternatives. thank you so much to anyone who can help me with this, i deeply appreciate it.

i'm using Fruitystudio... and it's great.

and you can stick to fruity... you don't need anything "better".
just read throu ALOT of other topics and you will see that many pro's use fruityloops, reason, buzz etc.....

We really like helping newbies here at TA, but we dislike answering the same exact question on a daily basis. Please do a search on this topic.

To answer, people on this forum use mainly fruity, reason and cubase. Very few of us on this forum use ProTools. Maybe a few use Logic. Sonar, not many.

There you go.

And while we're at it, I'll go ahead and answer questions you haven't asked but want to: Such as,

Can you REALLY make great tracks with Fruity?

To which we would respond: Look at all the great producers that use it, Flutlicht, Parker etc.

Can you REALLY make great tracks with Reason?

Listen to Haak's Frenzy.

Which is better, hardware or software?

They are about the same, with a few exceptions.

And last but not least, how can I get the kick to sit with the bassline?

It's a combo of eq, envelopes and compression...experiment.

Good luck to you.

I use my head to produce good quality stuff

My impression was that Protools was used more for a hardware based studio and multitrack sequencing from external sources, so if you're looking for software taht is going to give you good sounds then I think you don't want that. Use whatever you feel comfortable with; you can get whatever kinda sounds you want out of any of the software mentioned here with a good enough grasp of it.

I use FruityLoops, Internet Audio Mix, Cool Edit Pro v. 1.2a, NovationKS4 Synth, Joemeek MQ3, Eurorack MX802A, EchoMia soundcard. And I still suck. Doesn't really matter what you use, YOUR SKILL is what makes it sound good.

Thank You All

I really appreciated all the great info you guys had to offer. I never realized FL was such a powerful tool. I also wasn't aware that so many really awesome songs had been produced using FL. The only remaining question i have would be how to use a VSTi plugin such as FM7 or any other NI software with FL. Once again, thank you all very much for your support.

put the .dll file in your flstudio4/plugins/vst folder
go to fruity loops, right click on a channel, select add, then more..., then do a fast scan and then click the checkbox for it. Now you the synth will be on your add list
