speaker pops.

I get a lot of pops coming through my speakers and headphones. Naturally i just figured it was dust, so i went and bought a cleaning kit and cleaned all my vinyl pretty exstensivly (or so i thought). But i still have pops. grr. I was wondering if that just means its time for new needles? or did i do a shite job on my cleaning?

and another thing... I actually think the cleaning solution i use attracts dust. Does anyone have any suggestions on cleaning solutions or methods to clean? please, dear god, enlighten me. cause i could almost swear that i watched a piece of dust fly from across the room make a right turn, and land on my record.

3 cups *distilled* water (must be distilled), 2 cups 91% isopropyl alcohol, 1 *cap* full of lysol, no more then that and use the unscented regular kind. nothing with scents or orange oil or anything like that. just the straight germ killing regular lysol. lysol will inhibit mold from growing in the grooves of your vinyl. this does happen more often then you might think. you can't see it though. also you should clean your record first before you play them for the first time no matter how clean they look. there's a bit of residue left over from the pressing and when you play it without cleaning it the heat from the friction of the needle fuses the residue to the vinyl and can make permanent static, pops, and loss of sound quality. cheers.
