Record Crate Mod info.

New post with a pic of the inside....

This is what it looks like on the inside-

and the outside-
http://www.freeflytim.com/outside.jpg

I wanted to build a new PC for Final Scratch and when I saw a record crate sitting in the corner I had an epiphany Stick a PC in a crate!

This is my first homebuilt PC and I went all out- I didnt want any bottlenecks Each component is currently the sheeznit..

Abit IC7-MAX3 motherboard
1 Gig OCZ DDR PC-4000 Dual Channel Gold memory
P2.8 800fsb w/hyperThreading
2 Maxtor 80g drives to be upgraded to S-ATA drives
TDK CD/DVD burner
ATI 9600 128 pro on the way
Antec 480w power supply
XP Pro
Pieced together and ordered from Newegg.com

All this is mounted on a removable motherboard tray from a $16 computer case and mounted in an Odyssey record crate. The case sits closed on its side and the CD/DVD burner is accessible by opening the cover. I was worried about cutting the crate to get it all to fit in but I have an aircraft A&P mechanic that works for me who took care of that.

I thought that it would need an additional intake fan for cooling, but, luckily, the internal temps are within reason.

The next mod is getting the Final Scratch hub mounted on the inside.

very very cool. only thing are the hard drives, ive had really bad experience with maxtor. seagates are the way to go, do you have that running RAID, or just 2 seperate hard drives?

Everybody has different opinions about hard drives, some people have tons of WD, Maxtor, Ibm (definitely) and seagate die. There is no one "top/best" harddrive manufacturer.

he also posted it in every forum on the final scratch board....
it's nothing special it looks like it will fall apart any second. your attention to detail could use a lil work.

Um... WTF are you talking about? He posted it in one forum, General, where it belongs. Not all FS users are also TAs so I think it makes sense to post it both here and there. Altough he really should have just edited or at least posted to his original one on here instead of making a new topic.

Very sweet.. but those top of the lines generate a whole hell of a lot of heat and your case looks cramped with poor cooling.. are you having lock ups yet? Looks like a slow heat death waiting to happen... damn cool though.. I'd get out the dremel and cut a few more holes and mount some glowing LED/Cold Cathode fans in there

FFS.... Why do you get a p4 2.8 and a radeon 9600 pro for a Final Scratch box? Thats a high end gaming machine, you could have saved a lot if you were going to just use it for final scratch (which I hear requires its own mobo and bios to operate)

i just hope that thing doesn't overheat.

1. Yes it is over kill for FS. But if you look down at my second comment you will see one can use the computer for other things besides FS (just not at the same time without some trickery).

2. FS does not "requires its own mobo and bios to operate" it simply runs on its own OS. This means most people have there system duel boot. So when you turn it on and choose windows (or it times out and boots windows) or you select FS and it boots a striped down Linux distro designed for FS.
