windows me & memory
I have a bit of a problem with Windows ME (gets ready for flames) and SDRam memory. Over the weekend, I ordered 768 MB of memory from Crucial. One is a 512 chip and the other is 256. Well, I just found out that Windows ME doesn't support any memory over 512 MB. To say the least, I am quite pissed.
My motherboard supports both chips, and everything is fine in that respect. Windows ME boots fine, but once the desktop loads, the screen goes blank. This is how I know it is gay ass Windows.
My question is is there anyway to tweak this and get around it so I may use both chips and run 768 in my system? Is there any special memory settings I should change or is Windows ME just that shitty?
I'm probably going to borrow a friend's copy of XP and install that so I can use all my memory and so my PC doesn't crash so much.
If anyone can help me out on this, I'd appreciate it.

hehe trash windows altogether!
Windows ME is ass
Win 2K Pro =
Do a search on microsoft.com theres a registry seting you need to change if you use more than 512mb of ram.
but seriousley what you doing using ME still?
get rid of that retarded winme (prolly the worst ms os), install win2000 or xp instead, and you'll be fine.
I still use ME for a variety of reasons.
First, ME came with my PC and I never felt like paying $100-200 for a new operating system. I also don't necessarily want a pirate OS either, so I choose not to download 2000 or XP. I also like the GUI and interfaces of ME. It has this nice original look to it. Second, I don't need 2000 because I don't want all the extra admin features. This leaves me with XP. I never liked XP much because I feel it is bloatware. The toolbars and menus look terrible IMO and I think Microsoft fully copied the Mac OSX GUI. I know you can change the look to the classic appearance, but still. Also the activation and registration bullshit Microsoft put on XP is ridiculous. That is the main reason I never upgraded. Although, ME did come in useful when the viruses came out late in the summer. My PC was exempt from attacks.
Anyway, I'll try that registry tweak. If it doesn't work, I guess it's time to upgrade.
