-- Is there cheese.....
Is there cheese.....
in the GOA/PSYtrance world? In the 5 or 6 years that I have been enjoying the PSYchedelic sounds of the genre, I don't seem to recall ever hearing a 'cheesy' track. Sure I've heard quite a fair share of shit tracks, but I haven't heard a cheesy one(?).
Can cheese only be applied to those tracks/genres that make it mainstream? This confuses me
.
If any PSY trance fans or afficionado's can please let me know if what I'm interpreting as a 'cheese-free' genre is real or not, I'd much appreciate that. I'd like some examples too, if you can provide any (a list is fine).
To me, this is what I've heard listening to PSY/GOA over the years:
1. Orgasmic
2. Kickin
3. Great
4. Garbage
5. Shit
There may be a few that would fall in-between some of these, but from what I've experienced it's either a really good/great tune, or total and utter garbage. I don't think I've ever heard an 'average' GOA/PSY tune....ever?

i think its one of those things that couldnt ever happen, like cheesy acid techno
hmm u make a good question..
by most definitions on here, Cheese is pretty much any trance song that has made it into mainstream. IE DJ sammy, ian van dahl, oakenfold.
yeah i know thats a real shitty definition and most people will probably disagree with me, but it seems for the most part true. We like to have Trance stay underground and as soon as a tune is picked up by a popular radio station it suddenly becomes cheese.
well at least thats the way it seems here in the US
But Psy/Trance is really really really underground and I doubt we'll be hearing any goa trance on the radio anytime soon.
But with that being said, this just resorts back to what ur were saying earlier..that you can tell a shit track from an orgasmic track. And in this case i guess it will just have to depend on each persons opinion and particular taste.
most of the GMS/1200 mics tracks : examples :
1200 mics - mescaline
GMS - juice (totally cheezy, bullshit lol)
+ some Skazi tracks (example : XTC <--- cheezy at its best)
another ones :
Infected mushroom - symphonatic
Psydrop - zombie refugee
but i think you are right, there are few cheezy psytrance/goa tracks, that's a good thing
PS : cheezy acid techno exists too! really

ure right there isnt any cheese in psy/goa trance they just get wierder and freakier which i love. its made for the underground and it will probably stay that way.

Cheese = anything made as a cash-in on an established style in an attempt to make a quick buck, or anything that's real gimmicky. Mainstream success has nothing to do with it.

| Originally posted by TwoHardCore This is kinda what I was thinking. Needless to say I don't think the GOA/PSY genre will have much of a chance to make it mainstream (only because it's too different). And even though I've heard dozens or maybe even hundreds of Astral Projection wanna-be's, I still don't think I've ever heard 'cheese'. I'm gonna check a few of those tracks out that Laughingfennec posted, thx btw, and see for myself if I agree....I think I might actually have the GMS and 1200 mics tracks, but I'll have to do some digging. Thx for the response's my fellow TA's. I feel 'enlightened'....and I just had to say this, 'Enlightened Evolution by Astral Projection' is perhaps the greatest TUNE ever created!!! THC |
