Read This! Good study tunes

I love trance to death, but sometimes I get so into it while studying or doing assignments or whatever that I forget about my work, and many hours pass by without anything being done.

Well, I've sorta experimented with different types of trance, house, and drum & bass, and I've found that anything that has energy will distract you (obvious duh!) so the best thing to listen to is something with a nice slower downbeat tempo. I also find that listening to it loud really distracts me, so by listening to it a little bit more quiet, like turning it into background music really helps :P Drum and bass also works believe it or not, but it has to be out of your way, just like more interesting background noise, and oddly enough it helps you keep pace with your thoughts and keeps you going to a rhythm.

Some good examples that are handy are:

Accadia - Into the Dawn (Ashtrax Remix)
Accadia - Into the Dawn (J. Holden Remix)

Listen to those songs and you'll know what I mean by a slow soothing beat.

House works pretty well, they usually play it in the lounge at the Student Life Center at my university, and it seems to keep everyone working well. Once they turn it up loud (like the guy there often does) then all the concentration is broken and you can kiss your focus goodbye :P

Then again, everyone is different and some people study better with the complete opposite of me, so I'd reccomend to the serious students out there, find out what kind of music makes you most productive because believe me, too many assignments went unfinished because of the distraction of the music I just HAD to have

Anyways, how do the rest of you students here fare with music while studying?

I know its kind of not related but I can't focus at all for some reason listening to edm when studying, I do it best listening to some nice jazz or blues for some reason.

Thanks for the songs guys, I'll check them out asap! Let's hope this exam goes by decently well

Our lounge playes jazz quite a bit, but like I said, the guy has either no volume distinction or he just can't work a volume knob, it's much too loud to enjoy, so it gives me bad memories when I just hear any jazz nowadays

when i'm studying i love to listen to trance, but my main probelm is i can't listen to anything with vocals, or i usually get into the build up of a track so choosing tracks that you don't lose focus is hard, i'll post some of my study playlists later when i've got some time

yeah i know what you mean about studying music. i need my soft, chill or lounge music in the background to not get distracted. vocals are never good, i usually start singing in my head or something and thats a bit problematic when reading a textbook hehe. anyway here are some good tracks for studying imo

aphex twin: flim, polynomial-c, iz-us, 4
boards of canada: june 9th, open the light, see ya later, sixtyniner
juno reactor - nitrogen pt. 1
craig armstrong - weather storm
