N00b question. What is an LP and what is an EP?

What do LP and EP stand for, and what is the difference between the two?

I just started buying records and don't even know the terminology =P

An LP is a long-playing phonograph record.

I can never remember what EP stands for though

I'm pretty sure it's Extended-playing though I may be wrong

EP (Extended Play) is more than a single. 3 or 4 songs.
LP (Long Play) is the whole album

Forgive me for being ignorant, but I always thought an LP was a record that had like two tracks while an EP contained three or more tracks.

Correct me, if I'm wrong.

I don't know to much about the differences in this, but I know for a fact that LP's have like 10-12 songs on it

An LP (Long Player) is an album (usually in the region of 10-14 tracks, varies tho)
An EP (Extended Player) is a collection of a few (usually 3 or 4) tracks, usually by the same artist without a particular one of them being the 'main' track
A single is one main track, and usually one or more remixes or b-sides
This applies to both CDs and vinyl

When it comes to trance you'll mostly be buying singles, with the occasional EP, and rarely an album (they usually come in sets of several discs)
