Review + photos Paul van Duck Reflections Party 16-10-2003 Amsterdam Holland
We arrived at Panama just before 22:00hr. We found a great spot for the car 250 meters from the entrance. We were lucky! As we got in and got our names checked, it was still quiet inside. The dancefloor was pretty cool, as they put tables and seats around it.
As we got some drinks, we were surprised by the reasonable prices for Amsterdam standards. A bottle of Heineken was 3 Euro, a glass of soda less than 2 Euros. Bejamin Bates was already playing but we found it pretty boring. So we just talked a bit and checked out the few people who did dance.
Just after 24:00, when Paul was suppost to start, a lot of people got in at the same time but it was never too crowdy. A lot of ID&T radio hosts and some famous Dutch people were walking around near the bar, of which one ex Miss-Holland. We met Mementos and his lovely girlfriend, as well as some people from Berlin.
Paul was playing his tracks while Markus was fooling around with the people standing on the side of the dj area. It seemed to me that he was really enjoying playing in Amsterdam. He smiled a lot and was happy with all the space he had. Having a PvD party in your own 'backyard' has so many advantages: no traveling, less costs, more energy left to dance! Too bad I had to work and get up 07:00hr the next day.
I would like to compliment Panama on the way they organized everything: two friendly security people at the door, nice people at the bar, enough space to dance and most important of all: dj within reach. The crowd (age 25 average) wasn't as enthousiastic as in the UK or Germany, but everyone seem to enjoy the sounds a lot.
Another night to remember!
Toilets: worth the 50 cents 8/10
Security: metaldetector, good staff 9/10
Drinks: prices ok, large selection, friendly barmen 8/10
Soundsystem: average, talking still possible 7/10
Lights: nothing special, disco style 7/10
Crowd: older crowd, a bit chilly 7.5/10
DJ Set: see tracklist 8.5/10
7.7/10
