Is there even an advantage/disadvantage of this tradition?

I never seemed to have had that problem. Tho have any of you naturals found your knob overly sensitive to the touch?

talking for myself, its not really a tradition... my parents decided to do it for me... my brothers aren't cut... go figure

Posted by sym on Oct-20-2003 01:20:

I am cut. I think now in the US at least it is common practice to have it done shortly after birth. I know that doctors strongly recommend it for medical reasons, since if not cleaned properly, an un circumcised pns can catch some nasty infections

Posted by electric_soul on Oct-20-2003 01:24:

circumsized.

as stated before. Nasty infection XD.
No it was not due to sex, I was about 9 yrs old

Yes, i still can have children

worst part? after anesthesia and the whole thing... about a week after, The scar got infected, and had to suppurate, no anesthesia. that made me CRY of pain. Recalling it gives me the chills

do i regret? no, but I wish I could have had sex without being circumsized. Just to compare lol. (On the other hand, maybe not... what if it was better being uncut? )

The AMA did research on this, and found out that the likeliness of infection for an uncirced guy was about the same as the amount of complications from the operation itself.

Posted by astroboy on Oct-20-2003 01:33:

Most cultures where this is a tradition come from hot, arid climates, where water was scarce and washing yourself properly wasn't a luxury you could afford to take very often. Hence, circumcision made the penis far easier to maintain and prevented urinary infections from occuring in this windy, hot, sandy climate (imagine getting fine desert sand under your foreskin ).

However the downside is that you're taking what nature intended to be a "semi-internal" organ - the glans of the penis, and turning it into something external, causing desensitization.
To put things into context for the ladies reading this... male and female genitalia are far more similar than you might think, at early stages of development in the womb they are identical - eventually the genitalia gain definition as the foetus develops and the bit that turns into a clitoris for females turns into the head of the penis for boys. Essentially these parts are equivalent, they are equally sensitive and serve the same purpose during sex (pleasure). So if you wanna know what it feels like for a newly circumcised baby, just imagine your clitoral hood + labia disappearing, leaving your clitoris to rub against your underwear. Of course eventually the thin membrane turns into thick skin and sensitivity is reduced greatly.

Another negative is that it is a surgical procedure, and things can go wrong. While the risks are small, when you consider that the advantages of circumcision in a modern context have become irrelevant, and that these days procedure is largely aesthetic - it seems the risks, however small they are, are not worth taking. A lot of surgeons are refusing to perform crcumcisions on moral grounds... Apart from the traditional aspects it is analogous to my asking the obstetrician to give my new-born baby girl a clit-ring while he's at it, cos I prefer the way it looks! (no doctor in their right mind would comply) - the only difference being that piercings can heal up if removed, circumcisions are permanent.

Posted by Turbonium on Oct-20-2003 01:38:

Well my dad is a doctor, and he thinks it's retarded to circumcize (so no, I'm not). He's told me that it's also very risky, as sometimes, it's extremely hard to do it properly on a newborn (paraphrasing: "I mean it's really frikkin' small at times, it doesn't take much to screw up and accidentally knick off part of or the whole damn glans").
